Email Advice

Good afternoon fellow BGAFDers,
I'm after a bit of advice if anyone could be so kind?
I have a couple of email addresses hosted on BT email servers but my ISP is not BT.
BT has now decided to collar a bit of extra wedge by charging a monthly fee for email addresses where the user of those addresses does not have BT as their ISP.
So, I am now looking to migrate to other email service providers but I would need those that will work with an "Email Client", specifically Microsofts "Windows Live Mail" as provided with "Windows 7".
Any advice on who you would consider as a reliable email provider would be appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.

Can't go wrong with Gmail.
Can use it just fine with Windows Live Mail.
Here's an explanation how to do it
Personally, I'd forget about downloading all your emails and accessing them with Live Mail. Keeping them server side is more secure (you lose your laptop/PC they don't have your emails). And, you can access your email more easily from other computers.
It's easy to personalise and create folders so you can sort by category. It has a built in virus scan for attachments, and the best free spam detection compared to Microsoft, AOL and Yahoo's equivalents.

I can not comment on Windows Live Mail as I don't use it.
However I think Gmail is currently the best of the free online services, particularly for adult orientated mails as it does not seen to block mails containing certain words, phrases or links unlike Hotmail and to a lesser extent Yahoo.
It is relatively easy to copy all your mail stored in your BT accounts to Gmail,
I did this for a work colleague last week in a few minutes during lunchtime.
The biggest difference is rather than using folders like BT/Yahoo, Gmail uses labels.
Even sent mail can be copied by emptying your inbox, moving sent mail to it then copying your inbox again to a specific label in Gmail e.g. ' BT sent mail '

Personally I'd avoid gmail and anything else to do with Google. I don't want by emails being scanned by them.

Quite. With Google, you're the product, not the customer.

They're just bots looking for key words to target more relevant ads. It's not like some human is sat reading everything you send out.
