Getting tickets for gigs

I could do with some tips about how to get hold of tickets for bands playing in indoor arenas around the country. I'm not talking about football stadia where I might need a pair of binoculars to see the stage or outdoor festivals.
What I'm talking about is stuff like Neil Young and Crazy Horse at the Liverpool Arena or Bob Dylan at Blackpool Opera House (No I'm not kidding).
As soon as I hear about the gig either on the news or in a newspaper, these gigs seem to be invariably sold out.
Any tips as to how I can find out about these events quickly enough to get a ticket?

I think just using search engines on t'internet
or if you have missed out but don't mind paying a bit extra try something like
Probably not the best tip you'll get, but I gave it a go.

Thanks for your suggestions.
Usually when I do a search of the event and the actual ticket provider they have all gone.
Viagogo looks a possibility but a "bit extra" by the time you have added in VAT, booking fee, delivery etc. seems to come to quite a bit extra.
Or maybe I am being a tight wad.
Ta!

Maybe a bit more helpful, and if they are ethical, all the better

Ticketmaster is quite good. It's the same as Live Nation I think.
Sometimes it can be a bit hit and miss even if you know a gig is coming up. They sometimes have priority booking stuff.
And as you sound like a rocker I think classic rock magazine has a website with ticket info.
Good hunting.
And I'm seeing Neil Young at the Echo. Already seen him at the Metro in Newcastle.
And I thought Bob Dylan was dead!!!

You could try Stargreen
I've not tried the website myself as I usually buy tickets from their shop in Oxford Circus and over the last 20 odd years or so have been pretty successful. The problem with trying to buy from places like Ticketmaster ,Livenation, Aloud , etc. is that these places usually get blitzed by touts as soon as a major event is announced, which is annoying as I thought there were measures in place to stop this happening.!furious!

Most of the venues where the gigs are held have their own websites or even the promoters are where you are most likely going to find the tickets at the best prices Everywhere else needs to charge extra for their commission

I signed up to ticketmaster. Most tickets go on sale on a friday but they often have a pre sale on the wednesday. Usually get an alert Tuesdy nights for these.
P.S. Will be down in Blackpool this weekend for Rebellion!
