How long have the humans got left? world got
Watching gorgeous Lily Cole on TV last night and her art show with Antony Gormley..he suggested that the human race has about 300 years left and it got me thinking that he may well be right.The world is a nastier place than when I was a kid and what with pressure on resources,tensions over land,religeous nutters,population explosion etc I wonder what the world will be like on 300 years time....

Too many humans on the planet for us to die out. It will have to be a major cataclysmal event before all humans are extinct.

Too hot to support human life according to some scientists, who say that climate change in the next 300 years is a bigger threat than any of the matters you listed. An extinction event has been predicted.
It won't affect the moon colonists though, they will be happy enough up there for a while longer, and maybe other places will have human settlements too (Mars anyone?)

Nah......the least nasty time in the history of human evolution is now.
Not that long ago it would have been ok to beat your wife, no questions asked as long as you didn't hospitalize her. Same for you kids.
Not that long ago the government would have castrated you, or imprisoned you for being gay.
Not that long ago pensioners and the disabled were left to fend for themselves if no relatives or charities had room.
Not that long ago you could employ poor, uneducated people on the most basic of wages, with no holiday, in dangerous conditions and just about work them to death with no comeback.........and that included kids.
Not that long ago you could carpet bomb a whole city of non-combatant civilians and nothing more than a few eyebrows would be raised.
Not that long ago you had no right to vote if you were a woman......a bit further back you weren't allowed to vote if you were working class.
There are numerous more examples. Too many, really. This the the most caring, safe and fair time in the known history of our species. It's just that our perception of these things has changed due to raised expectations and a plethora of 24 hour news channels desperate for the slightest bit of scandal to feed us with.
Of course, nothing is perfect and we can always improve - we should improve. But in all seriousness, ask yourself what a 19th century coal miner, aged 14, who already has a stoop and losing use of his hands from industrial white finger, would think of your pessimism. He'll be lucky if he can read a little and live longer than 45. To him you're a spoilt brat that's had it easy.
The good thing about humans is that we are probably the only species on the planet who has the foresight and capacity to see and mould our own future. For me it's a war between the David Attenboroughs and Jeremy Clarksons of the world. I'll leave you to guess which side winning spells doom!

Climate change is a pile of Liberal Fascist wank. It does not exist. Earth has had cold and hot and cold spells for millions of years. Man is arrogant if he thinks he can change the force of nature.

The stats and evidence just don't back it up, worldwide. We are far less violent and cruel than ever before. We just know about it these days.
Stephen Pinker has studied the history of violence in human societies for years and wrote a paper about it about 6 years ago. There was a book published on it too: The Better Angels of our Nature. Give it a gander.

climate change was a way of creating money - bring in a ruse and make it sound were all doomed if we dont do something about it - run people scared and empty their wallets.
