selling video direct versus using VOD providers?

Looking for some advice/opinions on selling video content directly versus selling via VOD providers.
Starting a new website and would like to sell video clips on demand rather than have website subscriptions. Preferably via streaming only.
I don't expect to become rich but it would be nice if the video revenue at least covered the hosting and photo/video shoot costs
The website has been built using an open source CMS and it should be possible to integrate an e-commerce plug-in that uses CCBill to take payments for each video. The video files may be hosted on Amazon S3 rather than my own hosting/site. This method lets me keep most of the revenue from my videos, but I would of course have extra hosting/bandwidth costs to pay.
So as an alternative/simpler solution I could instead use a VOD provider such as moviedollars.com/clips.com for my video content, with my store page also integrated to my own website.
The percentage that moviedollars.com/clips.com takes from you seems ridiculously high. However I wouldn't have the extra hosting/bandwidth costs, and if they are able to get far more punters streaming my videos perhaps it would generate more revenue than I would get from selling it directly on my own website, which will be accessed by far less punters.
Another idea may be to go with the VOD provider approach initially, then if my website gets busy, switch to selling direct?
Anyone got any views on each approach? / which approach is better?
Cheers
