I was surprised to hear that there are 43 polices "services" in England and wales (Five live today)... What I can't understand is why, for such a small country, do the public "allow" a massive duplication of costs and the high wastage of tax payers money... 43 chief constables on an average of ?180,000... 43 payroll centers.... 43 individual buying policies... etc
Why not reduce to say 35??? and use the saved money for extra police constables and front line equipment??
Or do the police want their own little empires????

I was absolutely gobsmacked to find out as I was eating my Swiss muesli and yoghurt, with a handful of grapes, topped with a tablespoon of Manuka honey that he federal Swiss government does not run a general purpose law enforcement agency!!!!!! National-level law enforcement coordination is provided by a board of cantonal police commanders.
The 26 cantonal police agencies and numerous municipal police agencies are the backbone of Swiss law enforcement. They are not subordinate to federal authorities. Their commanding officers report to the head of the respective cantonal or municipal department of police, who is a member of the cantonal or municipal governing council.
I am still in a state of shock several hours later. Perhaps some of your Swiss law enforcers can come over here and pick up a few tips?
Not particularly proud to be DJ.

Yep you,re right, but the UK police is top of the league for sick days taken by officers... the highest in the G8...
Oh and they have the BEST pensions again of all G8 countries!

"Oh and they have the BEST pensions again of all G8 countries!"
Ah these selective facts, Von Boy will be your downfall.
Look at this! Police recruits are going to be getting less than a McDonald's trainee manager. It must be true. I read in the Daily Mail.
And the sickness is due to the lean mean fighting machine which is the British police compared to the incredibly bureaucratic Swiss canton police.
Still time for the Swiss police to visit and get tips about sorting themselves out?

You're spot on with the reductions that could be made but it has very little to do with the Police wanting their own little empires, as such but does have a lot to do with politics and a little thing called localism which costs an absolute fortune.
It's not just the Police but the NHS and other emergency services whose livery costs alone if dropped could be used to significantly increase staff or better still staff wages.
Although I understand some of its principals, in terms of local people do know what is best for their area, for me the political agenda of localism is nothing more than a Government cop out of their own responsibilities.
It's an agenda of all the main political parties, something I'd like to see changed but sadly something that will never happen, it's not even a cut excuse for Dave.
