e-cigarettes...

Like many people who smoke (I smoke about 7 or 8 a day) I've quit many times but always gone back to them, however the switch to electronic cigarettes is really appealing to me as it seems almost harmless to smoke them, it's cheaper, and you can smoke them in public places.
Has anyone on here made the switch to e-cigarettes, has it made you stay off the regular fags permanently, would you agree with the reviewers who stay it is a healthy alternative, and have you also found you've saved a lot of money? People's views please. Thanks.
From reviews I've read and heard, these are the best ones:

Cheers. I'm about to speak to someone I know who has tried them and will be getting the low-down on how it worked out for them.

These are being created to try and maintain the nicotine fix - almost as bad as the real thing - and have similar risks - nicotine itself is still recognised as a cancer causing agent. So no dont encourage these. And no you can smoke them in a publci place. If you read the small print you will see that these are considered as smoking by most councils and as such the law still stands -
The thing is stop it - just dont smoke period. 7 a day are still a significant health risk and one that can be managed out.
Its the way that these are being marketed that makes me cringe. so so very wrong - that they are healthy and a viable alternative to smoking,
Nah mate bite the bullet and quit - know you can squander your money on other more enjoyable things than a nicotine hit !

I've been on them since Sunday but have slipped a couple of times, that's not bad however because it means I only smoke a real cigarette occasionally. And they taste ok.

I've been smoking them in public places since I started on them last Sunday, and no one minds. I've been in two pubs, smoked away, and no one has said anything - doing it at the bar right in front of the staff too. I've smoked in a shopping mall aswell with staff walking by and noticing.
As far as the health thing is concerned, they don't have the 4,000 bad things in them that normal fags do. You have nicotine, yes, but apparently smoking e-cigarettes is like drinking a small amount of coffee. That has caffeine in it which is like nicotine in small amounts in terms of it's harm (from what I've read). Everything else in a normal fag is not present, and the 'smoke' (which evaporates and does not hang in the air) is made up of the things which go into food additives and the things which go into toothpaste - and everyone has taken those things into their system.
I'm not addicted to smoking, I was smoking a small amount of normal fags, but it's the habit of doing it that's hard to break. You get so used to doing certain things in certain situations, me not smoking when on the computer with a cup of tea is as odd to me as going to the pub and having a lemonade rather than a beer, or having no veg with your meat. It's so what you're used to that it's hard to change the format.
I'm not doing badly though, I've ordered some more e-cigs online and will hopefully more or less stick to them - apart from the odd real fag, but once every now and again is not really harmful.
