32GB SDHC card - Which brand to buy ?

Post by sparky »

I need a 32GB SDHC card for my HD camcorder which records direct to SDHC card only.
The camcorder minimum specification is class 4 but I assume for the marginal price difference class 10 is better to minimise glitches etc.

I would prefer to buy from Amazon as the cards are less likely to be fakes plus worst case more chance of refund if any problems.

I can find these -

Integral Ultima Pro ?15.32

Lexar Premium ?16.75

San Disk Ultra ?17.25

Transcend ?16.99

Transcend Blue ?15.00

I'm looking for a straw poll of which brand is the most reliable.

I've had various brands / badges of 128Mb - 2GB SD cards and never had an issue but all only used for photos so much less demanding than video.

I have a San Disk Extreme 32GB SD HC which holds about 8 hrs of footage and records at 45mbs per second.

Get a Lexar Professional 32gb. It's class 10 and up to 60mb/s. It's only ?7-8 more than the others and much better for HD.

Traditionally, I always found Lexar to be the most reliable but these days they're all pretty much the same as other manufacturers have caught up. Always get a card reader and back up to your hard drive though. Even if they're guaranteed, you can't get back a weeksworth of holiday footage.

.....check with the camcorder's website what cards are compatible. Sometimes flashing the firmware adds compatibility for newer, faster cards.
