I misread that heading as "Gazza for Pope".
What a good idea I thought.
Free altar wine, no-one being able to understand what you're saying (Geordie and Latin sounds the same to me).
Being able to stumble around the Vatican wearing funny clothes with no one bothering you.
The job's tailor-made for Gazza.

Surprised Tony Blair isn't angling for the job.

I have to admire his conviction of going out on his terms. My staunch Catholic colleage genuinely thought I was winding him up when I told him the news.
He thinks the next Pope will be Italian. Could be Mancini as he can't have long to go at City before he gets the boot.
Dougal from Father Ted would do a great job.

Unfortunately Spider, Gazza has no experience of being the head of a systemically paedophilic organisation.
Nor has he ever been, to my knowledge, a member of a facist organisation !adolf!, such as the Hitler youth.
So I'm afraid he won't make it passed the 1st interview stage.
There must be an out of work Radio DJ from the 70's that needs a gig? !wink!
They'll need to handle guilt a lot better than Benedict though....

Does anyone know, is the Vatican an equal opportunities employer?

Can you recall that last week the papers were full of how it was impossible for the Queen to follow the Dutch Queen's lead and abdicate in favour of Charlie because `she is like the pope and will have to die in office ` then this week he goes and buggers that excuse up for her!
