very fair.. police pay has been far too high... the danger side of the job has been reduced massively over the years and staff in other public sector areas are at times in more danger than the police.... now they need to reduce the massive overspend on the police pensions...

Might stop people going into the Police for money and nowt else. Apart from Firemen I don't know any group of people more mercenary than coppers. Teachers next...

Do coppers still get that ridiculous overtime deal? Overtime is (was) paid at 4 hours extra, do 20 mins overtime, get four hours pay. Do two hours overtime, get four hours pay.

Did that little deal get squashed, because it should.

no the over time has not been passed by the federation... also sick days and making a police officer redundant have not yet to be passed... its amazing that the union/federation has such power!

I still remember a police officer with whom we have a lot of contact with due to working with the same "customers base " and his thoughts at the last election.

He was looking forward to the Tories getting on as in his own words they always treated the police well.

I for one am glad the police are getting the messy end of the stick for once unlike the other public services that have getting this kind of treatment for years.

I agree- I work for the NHS and have staff in my team who are at the top of their grade who are still a few grand below the police starting rate and will never get there. I recently put through an order for some torches and had it questioned because no one realised our staff went out in the dark!

They visit poor and volailte areas to see old people, have NHS uniforms on, so people think they may have drugs etc- they do their job with no complaints.

Police pay (and all the extra perks) are disgraceful and have been for many years
