You didn't see the match and your friend was either a Liverpool fan or just hates Man Utd.

Reina was down injured for a good few minutes with Liverpool in possession and attacking and the ref let them carry on. Liverpool didn't want to kick the ball out to let their keeper have treatment. Man Utd dispossessed Liverpool and went on the attack - only then did the ref blow to stop play. Without a keeper Liverpool were up shit-creek without a paddle and the ref came to their aid.

Later, Welbeck was through on goal and was brought down by Skrtel. He was the last man and could have seen red. There was some doubt as to whether Reina would have mopped up so the ref probably got it right with a yellow, but Liverpool did get the benefit of the doubt there.

Thirdly, on a yellow card already, Johnson rugby-tackled Valencia from behind with Man Utd breaking 3 on 2. Should have been a second yellow and Johnson off but again Liverpool got away with it.

Of course, people who don't actually watch the match will all come out with the same, old, lazy remarks..........what can you do? It's the internet.

Despite the ref giving the majority of decisions to Liverpool, and some crappy defending and goalkeeping that gave Liverpool hope, Man Utd won so no harm was done.


You see, people only talk about the big teams like Man Utd have bad decisions against them because of how the games eventually turn out. If Man Utd are denied 2 clear penalties against Wigan, say, they more often than not win anyway. The bad decisions against them didn't end up costing them the game and no one talks about it. If Wigan are denied the same penalties Man Utd win the game and everyone talks about how those two penalty decisions 'gifted' United the win, or 'cost Wigan the game.' It's not the case. The bigger, better teams like Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal usually win (regardless of bad decisions) because they have better players.

Sorry Sam I did watch the match and Man U were not outstanding. They have conceded way more goals than any other league leaders (Barca, Bayern etc). I am a neutral and it was not a great game by any standards.

Game of two halfs really. Salford won the first half and Pool won the second and if Sturridge had scored his other two chances Pool would have won.

And we cruised to victory over the gooners !

I didn't say anything about how well Man Utd played......just refuting the assertion that Man Utd got all the refereeing decisions their way. It was the opposite, really.
