I have to remind people that Churchill was never elected as Prime Minister in 1940, he got the job when he became party leader, you know like Gordon Brown.

As soon as there was a chance for him to stand as Prime Minister in 1945 he lost by a landslide.

He lost in a General Election again in 1950.

Although he managed to win the 1951 General Election (321 Conservative Seats to Labour's 295), his party did not win the popular vote.
