Ross Kemp, one courageous individual...

I have watched quite a few "Ross Kemp On Gangs" programmes and I have to say he has more guts and is more fearless than most TV presenters I've ever seen. I remember Roger Cook on the investigative show "The Cook Report", where he tracked down and door-stepped gangsters and criminals. He got attacked, beaten up, the camera equipment smashed up, the camera crew beaten up aswell, and he also got death threats and a bomb placed under his car once. But he still kept presenting his show. Ross Kemp has had none of those things happen, as far as I know anyway, but the situations he finds himself in on the programme are frightening to say the least.
The difference with this is that the people agree to meet him, where as Roger Cook just turned up and started talking to them uninvited. Ross Kemp though does run the risk of being tricked into situations and because the people he goes to meet are hardcore criminals and organised crime figures, he could be being lured into a trap. A kind of "how dare you think you have the right to cross-examine and judge us? We are going to sort you out for thinking you can quiz us on what we do". I hope nothing ever happens to Ross Kemp or his crew but it might if he keep this up. I watched the programme this week on Pick TV where he tracked down and interviewed organised mafia-like outfits in Bulgaria who are involved in crime in Britain. He always seems to interview these people late at night in derelict buildings or at the end of a remote dirt track in the middle of nowhere. He is one very gutsy man!

Yes, and he has displayed his "guts" several times during his visits to Afghan. Bullets have been near enough to him and his camera man so that the crack and thump of their passing have been recorded. The only good thing about hearing bullets is that if you can hear them they have missed you.

I don't think he's as brave as you think.... in the age of risk assessments, health and safety etc. its good television but a bit like all nature and survival programs, its not what it seems!! whats the betting some bullet sounds are added in a studio in London during the editing...
Now if you are talking about genuine news reporters then that's a different thing!

Sorry but its great television and that's it.... Rossy is spinning and re inventing himself as a "tough guy" reporter... sadly its not the case, but as I say look at some of the news reporters who have been killed... Terry Lloyd and Marie Colvin spring to mind... they went into situations without the back up of H&S, make up, editor, script writer, wardrobe, director, chemical toilet etc....

Mnn, I have always thought that those types are nutters and should realise that they are not dealing with normal people who don't know who they are, what they are doing and just couldn't care less about them.
Go anywhere unprepared and trouble will generally follow.
Ross is ok with me. At least he was there and on the ground with the troops.

I agree that with modern day Health and Safety rules, which may not have been there when Roger Cook was doing his stuff in the 1980's and 90's, Ross Kemp may have to ensure his and the crew's safety to a greater degree than is apparent. There is of course insurance for the presenter and crew, and that would not be granted if he was just going into any dangerous situation and just hoping nothing bad happens. Maybe he has bodyguards which we don't see, and maybe money is paid to those being interviewed which would lessen the chances of them getting aggressive. We never hear about that in the programmes though.

According to Kemp a clever person can tell the difference between the sound of real bullets and studio added bullet sounds.
Kemp wrote in his journal that "nobody in films or on television has ever come close to replicating the sound of bullets cutting through the air".
