As race related issues are dominating the forum these days I thought I would post a link to something that relates to this subject but is humorous. Have a watch of this, it is less than 4 minutes long, and is quite funny. Post any comments below:

Fuck it, I`m sick to death of it. Someone actually complained on twitter that the hobbit was racist because there was no black actors in it. And this wasn't a snotty 18 year old. I`m sick of the truth being stretched to fit minorities into roles, movies or books that simply weren't an issue back then.
Have you seen BBC`s Merlin? They've got a black Guinievere. Doctor who`s the same. What we going to pretend we've always treated black folks like equals, there was never any slavery or discrimination.

I posted this because I think Chris Rock is a funny comedian and he says some interesting things here. I like his reference to how so many more people are hanging out together now and how that is/was the dream of Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela. I also think quite a lot of this sketch is amusing.

And how many white actors you seen play the role of Jesus Christ/Moses etc despite them being from the middle east?

Do you think Cleopatra was as pale skinned as Elizabeth Taylor? How many times have you heard a Greek god, or Roman Emperor with a plum English accent?

Did these roles played by white, germanic people, upset you just as much?

I'm all for The series Roots to be redone with a all white cast playing the slaves.

That does not take a far stretch of the imagination, especially as the ethnic mix in that part of the world is likely to have been a tad different 2-3 thousand years ago, with the Muslim/Arab expansion coming later.

Not exactly great examples. Cleopatra was from a Greek dynasty, so would have been of paler skin than the average Egyptian [still, Claudette Colbert was not good casting], and plum English accents is what you get when you film the thing in English instead of doing a Mel Gibson...

No. But Genghis Khan played by John Wayne (or Omar Sharif, for that matter), Robert Morley playing the emperor of China, Chuck Connors playing Geronimo, Yul Brynner (even worse: Rex Harrison) playing the King of Siam, Anthony Quinn playing Kublai Khan, that was pretty upsetting too! And I have never even watched Peter Lorre as Mr Moto or Warner Oland as Charlie Chan.

Its sad to see the amount of racists you get on here but every forum seems infected by these low lifes these days.

One of our grand children is mixed race, John knocked out a guy with his pool cue one night for making a rude remark that she was a different colour to our other 4 grand children & was she buy one get one free, John did regret his actions later as he could have broken his cue.

His mates asked why he acted the way he did & he explained his great great grandfather was black & a freed slave from Boston, USA, having black family & friends as hardened him in realising how racist scum ruin people lives & he makes it his mission in life to steer these scum right when he can...any guy on here who thinks he is wrong can fetch it up with him at any industry do we attend lol!

Its funny to read one posters objection to a black Guinevere and another poster to fit the reasons why it is not a stretch of the imagination by having white folk play people of another race or colour.

You guys are funny.

Roots recast with white folk is a novel idea. That would be funny. Maybe then you'd understand racism a little bit more
