Europe's biggest mosque for east London...

This was on the London news today, a plan to build a mosque four times the size of St Paul's Cathedral on what is currently some wasteland in Stratford. The Islamic sect who will occupy it are said to be a very closed society and apparently 'want little to do with Britain's secular society' (whilst choosing to live here of course). Critics say this will create a muslim ghetto in London, there are several already.
People will not be surprised to hear I'm against it personally - the main reason is this seems like colonisation: a Christian country should always have, as its largest religious buildings, Christian buildings - just like an Islamic country should always have Islamic buildings as its largest religious buildings. They are physical statements of what the core religious identity of a country is.
I was shocked when I saw this on the News, I had heard of the proposal before but I thought it had been defeated already. That mad Leftie Ken Livingstone was keen for it to happen when he was Mayor, but now he's gone. I think it would be wrong to allow this to happen, but it probably will. People's views please.
Article here (it says in this write-up 'one of the biggest in Europe', the TV news said 'the biggest'):

No you're not - it' racist!! !tut!
There is no such thing as "UK natives" ... we're all descended from Africans ... besides which genetics have proven that a lot of us also had ancestors from the Iberian peninsula ... and the Arabs invented astronomy .... and we should be celebrating multiculturalism and diversity .... and you must be a BNP supporter / Daily Mail reader coming out with something like that ..... blah blah blah blah !boring! !boring! !boring!.

There is no need to give planning permission, simply tell them they can build just outside Mecca and take their prehistoric bigotted religion with them.

Are you sure this is a mosque for those Muslim chaps?
Here in Johnson Towers in Blackpool, I am in the process of taking advantage of the no planning permission required for extensions to build a ginormous extension which is based on the Taj Mahal. The missus loves it but the neighbours are a bit bolshy about it. I can't wait when I get some fish for the big pools and some kites for collecting the rubbish when Blackpool Refuse Collection let me down. I've already nipped down to Blackpool Exotics to see about getting some exotic birds for an aviary.
Are you sure this mosque is not an extension for Abramovich, for example rather than a place of religious worship?
Personally I would prefer a place of religious worship, but each to their own. You can't beat an Islamic call to prayer as far as I am concerned. Very emotiona and evocative.
And if you really want a bit of Asian music to get the toes tapping in Tranmere Towers try anything by Nusrat Fateh ali Khan.
Ace!

It's interesting how you can attach a link to a thread and the link changes as the hours go on. I've been out all evening and have just come in, I've read the replies, then clicked on the link (something I last read this afternoon) and discovered it is an updated attachment - it now says the proposal has been rejected. I am pleased about that, but it makes my original post seem a bit odd as people would think I attached a 'proposal rejected' to a thread about how the 'thing is currently being considered'. Oh well, the fact it has been turned down this evening is good news. Read the link folks, many gathered outside wanting this mosque, the size of a football stadium, to be built in London. And, oh yes, it has been TURNED DOWN! Yippee! I'm not even religious buy I live my life within the framework of a Christian society (celebrate Christmas, into getting married in a Church, any kids of mine I keen they celebrate Harvest Festival, and other things) and I think it's wrong for a mosque on this scale to be built here - bigger than any Christian building in the nation. And now it ain't gonna happen. Phew....

A lot of fuss over nothing then. The telling word in your first post was 'plan'.
