Gone to the wall, more business for the 'Laminated book of dreams' which is Argos, but how long do they have?

The laminated book of dreams is to be no more, it's all going digital. Online is the way forward, it looks.

The future of the high street is bleak. A couple of months back I read an article along the lines of "Amazon is not part of the market, IT IS the market..."Everyone I know checks prices on Amazon before going anywhere near a high street store. Unless you want high end products like Hifi or watches you can just about guarantee Amazon a) having it in stock and b) it getting to you in next to no time.

I have to say I was buying an all singing all dancing tv a couple of weeks ago and the guys in Comet were totally crap- I was looking to part with close to a grand and they just didn't go out of their way to make a sale.
Hardly surprising.

I agree with you there. I have found over the years that very few big name outlets have any staff worth talking to.
A few years ago I went into Currys in Churchill Square in Brighton as I had seen a camera that I was interested in, an Olympus E-410. I asked, as it turned out, the store manager "Can you tell me about the camera in the..." He interupted my question with a "Yes mate" To which I replied that I wasn't his mate but a customer after advice. He then restated that "It was only a term, mate" To which I replied that I had a term of my own and it was "You Pratt" I left and went round the corner to Jessops and was told everything I needed to know by a very keen and knowlegeable sales assistant. The price was the same but he chucked in a case and a spare 2Gb XD card. As I went past Currys on my way home I stood in the doorway and brandished my new purchase in its distinctive Jessops carrier bag and told the guy he was a real pratt.
The store closed down 3 months later. Poetic justice I like to think.
Nowadays it is so easy to find out anything you want on line that I suppose it may be a reason why these morons are in sales.
I have always been of the opinion (after the sales team at a company I once worked for) that if a salesman was any good he would do something else, but, that rather negates the excellent service I received from Brighton Jessops does it not?

If you know what you want, buying online is the way to go these days. I bought an iPad a week ago, ordered it 2pm, had it next day, 11am, free delivery, and a few quid saved ordering via quidco. Didn't have to bother driving to the mall and going to the Apple Store, or even worse, going to Currys, PC World and being pestered to buy an extended warranty.

Why was Rodders a prat? He asked for information on a product, and got interrupted. I work in a shop, but a totally different field (pharmacy), and always actively listen to what the request is, and use open questions as we go, so I can do my best to help that person.

Agreed, I once went into a shop, enquiring about two items, I asked "If I buy both of these..." only for the guy to interrupt with a blunt "there's no discount".
If he'd have let me finish, he'd have found out I was asking if i'd need any extra leads to connect them, or if everything was included. So no sale for him then.

Putting up an aggressive front when someone is trying to help you is making yourself look a prat
