Child Benefit capped at two

Ian Duncan "Quiet Man" Smith has come up with the spiffing idea that you get child benefit for the first two children and no more.
What a wonderful idea! Child Benefit is currently ?13.40 a week for the second child. I have lost track of the number of workshy single mums and good for nothings who have had an extra child just to get their hands on ths ?13.40 a week.
Next door reckons that once they take all the third child's weekly expenses out, they are still left with ?13 to spend down the pub.
Enough is enough!

One might argue why should anyone receive child benefit? Irrespective of the sums, if you can't afford children don't have them.

"One might argue why should anyone receive child benefit? "
One might also argue that pigs fly and the moon is made of green cheese. It doesn't necessarily give the ideas any credibility.
If we want families to have children so that there are at least some people of working age able to support the increasing number of retired people, probably best to provide some kind of financial support. And ?13.40 a week for a second child is hardly a huge incentive is it?

Don't knock it David.
That translates into about 100 packets of fags a year. Or 200 two-litre bottles of Diamond White.

There's no need for a "benefit" to have children... it was introduced in a totally different time and country... I think people are lucky to have any benefit for having children, so capping it at two a bonus...
Also kids born in the UK and then return home, i.e. Poland are entitled to child benefit up to 16 years... paid for from the British tax payer... but I am sure no one would want to stop that as the UK is the fourth richest country in the world

I would abolish child benefit in its entirety. That would fuckup the Poles et al.

Absolute horse shit.
His last name is Duncan Smith. His first name is Iain.
So strangely enough, he calls himself Iain Duncan Smith, or by his initials, IDS.
I think you are mistaking him for Ed Bollocks, who poshed up and now refers to himself as Ed Balls.

That's right, just confirmed it with a local and the Swiss do not have any form of child benefit payments... you sow your seed you pay...
and as I type this I notice the Alps have had a fresh dusting of snow! the ski season will soon be back!!
