A funny fact that was mentioned to me in Geneva yesterday.... there are 490,000 teachers in England and wales... in the last five years 4 have been sacked.... and as its a protected profession, no one can be made redundant, once you're a teacher its a secure job for life so.... the UK must employ the best teachers in the world!
For once I have to say here in Switzerland is not as good as the UK, they can make teachers redundant and sack them for under preforming at their job etc.
England 1 Switzerland 0
(PS also the UK has more PE teachers per head of population than any other country in the G 8)... good news!!

The total number working in England's state school system is now 438,000, not the 490,000 you assert- a fall of 10,000, not 4 as you say, from 2010, a survey taken in November (2011) shows.

Please get in touch with this lot below. They are obviously worrying about nothing.

I'm amazed that they need someone from Switzerland to tell them they can't be made redundant.

During my formative years I had some excellent teachers. I also had a couple of brutal bastards as well, but, the good ones made a lasting impression and I still keep in touch with one after 55 years.
I think the present bunch are wanting and too militant for their own and the childrens good. My Primary and Junior School teachers were totally apolitical, and even now I would be hard pushed to determine any of their political leanings. We certainly never got any indications in our classes. They were teachers of the old style and I remember them well with much affection.
& Don't forget... 4 day week!!
