It makes a change when you find that a 1970's rock legend that you thought had been dead, turns out to be very much alive. I heard today that Leslie West, the fattest man in rock and my hero guitarist of Mountain, is still going strong, minus a leg and doing concerts. Here he is in 1989 at Hammersmith Odeon.

Probably most familiar to some of our older readers as the band that performed the intro music, Nantucket Sleighride, to a programme I used to work on, Weekend World, back in the 70s and 80s.

Great band, love listening to Twin Peaks their double live album. Very underated band and Lelsie West an extremely talented guitarist.

Excellent guitarist and still making fine music. His last album was very well received.

I will always regret being invited to go and see Mountain, when I was 19 and I thought, "Who the fuck are they?" Later I started to listen and Leslie West became my favourite guitarist, then about 20 years ago someone told me had died! Having now found out he lives, I cannot wait to see a concert with him playing.

They have made loads of good songs, go investigate and hopefully enjoy. Listen to Mississippi Queen or Theme For an Imaginary Western, great songs.

He had an album out last year Jim, "Unusual suspects" with Bonamassa, Slash, Zakk Wylde, some great tracks on it, "one for the road" being my favourite, Incindently on that you toob clip , he's playing a Steinburger, I still have several of these and still use them especially the GL2T. You should try and listen to the album, I am sure there is a link on my forum somewhere to a preview. Technically he's not the best, but for me and many others he makes up for it with a unique style and sound, and sometimes that's much more inspirational, Also he's a very funny guy with a big personality.
