Hillsborough..getting a bit boring now..

Post by spunkie »

The whole world has bent over backwards to give the liverpool fans what they demand, so many apologies it's untrue. What more do these people want. Boris Johnson had it so right when he said that the city of Liverpool was wallowing in self pity. For Christ sake move on, no one woke up on that morning with the intent of causing death, it was a culmination of years of decline and poor treatment of football fans, which EVERY fan in the eighties was used to and accepted. The Liverpool fans chose to be treated like sheep and naively followed poor police instruction because they didn't have the sense to disperse outside the ground. Hillsborough hosted several high profile semi finals and at tbe time many first division matches without incident, yet all of a sudden on that day the police, fa, swfc, government, Sheffield city council were all to blame....but not the fans. Hmm... Got to be a message there somewhere..everyone just on that one day responsible but in no way the fans..totally blameless. Some blame it on the delapidated turnstiles but hang on a minute, Nottingham Forest fans used the same turnstiles at the other end..and they entered fine, so that rules that out..
Sick to death of attention seeking Liverpool fans going on and on and on about justice fir the 96..no one outside of the city is interested. You've had ur apology now move on..

spunkie is being economical with the truth. The Nottingham Forest fans at the other end had 60 turnstiles to enter the ground, the Liverpool supporters at the Leppings Lane end only 23.

"The Liverpool fans chose to be treated like sheep and naively followed poor police instruction"

Quite and 96 of them died as a result.

That's the point.

Without incident? You forgot to mention the 1981 semi-final between Tottenham and Wolves, where 38 people were seriously injured in crushing in the Leppings Lane end. Or the crushing in 1988 which Liverpool FC regarded as dangerous enough to have potentially cause fatalities and complained about before the 1989 match.... But then you were caught making false statements in the other thread spunkie, so maybe we shouldn't be surprised at your conduct here.

This was in The Independent today, regarding the semi-final the year before the disaster of 1989:

The panel discovered evidence of what Liverpool fans who attended the 1988 semi-final have always insisted: that the 1988 match revealed the inadequacy of the stadium for such an event. Correspondence published by the panel includes a direct plea to the FA from one fan. "The whole area was packed solid to the point where it was impossible to move and where I, and others around me, felt considerable concern for personal safety. As a result of the crush an umbrella I was holding in my hand was snapped in half against the crush barrier in front of me? My concern over safety was such ? at times it was impossible to breathe ? that at half-time? I managed to extricate myself from the terrace, having taken the view that my personal safety was more important than watching the second half."

Injustice is never boring but its interesting you see it that way. I dont blame you. That was the intention by dragging out those inquests over 25 years to dilute the rage that wouldve been a lot worse if it was still fresh.

Now, a lot of those involved are either dead or retired and all you get is a "sorry" form David Cameron

I bet the politicians spin doctors are getting a fat bonus for this one. Well done chaps....A sorry from the PM should be enough to placate the embers of a possible riot from those angered who lost loved ones that day due to police corruption and ineptitude

I'm unsure what else you want David Cameron to say.

By the way, you're having a go at politicians and spin doctors etc. Where the feck was the FA's apology, these past 23 years? Who, in my view, are at the very top of the list of organisations to be blamed.
They knowingly put fans in harms way, multiple times, in the 80's alone.

I'll tell you when they 'apologised'. The day after David Cameron.

One thing I'm not clear on is why the FA used Hillsborough in 1888, let alone 1989 after the problems in 1988, as it was not used as a semi-final venue from 1982 until 1987 because of the serious crush there in the 1981 semi-final which, as in 1989, resulted in the opening of Exit Gate C to relieve the crush.

The panel documents show that in 1981 there was a breakdown in relations between South Yorkshire Police and Sheffield Wednesday, with neither accepting responsibility for the near disaster. The panel found that although there was pressure for ground improvements, the club's "primary concern was to limit costs".

Youre right. At least he said "sorry" its only taken 25 years to say that simple word that magically erases all the pain, suffering and loss away. Better he said that at the very least but sorry, "sorry" wouldnt cut it for me if I was waiitng 25 years for justice

Yes I am being cynical and realise this is not fair on David Cameron but I am empathising with the loss of those people and "sorry" maybe the hardest word to say but it had scant to do with David Cameron as an individual. Hes just apologising on the behalf of the corrupt officers and reporters who should really be held to account for this travesty

You may think it boring but no one in your family died, nor consequently found out the police covered certain facts about how your relative died because they may have been partly to blame.

I agree it's boring, but I realise it is far from boring to the people who lost the most from this tragedy.
