Porn kills itself?

Thousands of Swedish porn fans have been hoodwinked into paying "Police" fines for downloading porn. Is it just me that believes that with scams like this and the speculative invoicing purge in the UK, even legitimate porn fans will be too scared to continue surfing for porn for fear of being entrapped in some way after innocently downloading some material? What with this, piracy, resistant STD's and "opting in" schemes, is it just me that believes the future does not bode well for porn?

We have noticed a slight increase in DVD sales over the last 18 months, we think speculative invoicing has been a major factor in this (customer feedback on the phone).

I do not believe in speculative invoicing, I believe the industry should target the uploaders and the service providers should be forced to block them.

But if speculative invoicing increases the dying market that is DVD sales, then that is a small good thing to come from a distasteful practice.

We have also noticed growth in our website as well. My theory is that people are now so shit scared of surfing generally, that they are now corralling themselves towards well established, trusted, foreign based websites like ourselves. They are thinking, "It might not be perfect, but at least my details are safe."

Only time will tell, but the Swedish scam is very bad as other crooks may follow suit in other countries.

Porn will always continue to be desired - its been made for ages and will continue to be made as long as there is a need and hormones see to that.

Hmm.......that's what people were saying 5 years ago and now the industry is a quarter of the size than it was then and is still shrinking fast. We'll touch base in another 5 years and see how it's going then! lol

The way I see it, porn is alive and well in all its forms. Yes websites and producers are suffering but th emeans in which people are willing to pay for it has gone in different directions.

Adult Work, webcams etc...The consumer can talk and wank to his faovurite porn star online now

As for speculative invoicing helping with DVD sales I dont think so. Youre average porn fan wouldn't even know what was going on until they were hit with it.

Most people that are into porn don't care for news about it, they just seek out what they like download it, jerk over it and don't care to know names unless they see a girl they like and look for her on the internet which inextricably brings them on here

Us folks in porn shouldn't surmise too much (yes that includes me) that so many people even give a hoot.

Maybe the summer has come to an end, people are feeling horny and there are always those who will pay for it because they dont know much about p2p technology and the stuff they find on tube sites isnt what they want because theres far too much of it

There I go surmising again....!happy!

Then again, you may well be right too

You are right William, people love porn. Mr Slip always seems to get
confused over the size of an industry. It has little to do with the number
of hands on dicks wanking at porn. And Jim, how can you say the industry
is on its last legs when you also say that you are making more money than
ever and your own (and I assume Lara`s site) are wowing them with
increased memberships. Seems odd to me....
What I find fascinating is that Zorro says his dvd sales have risen. Recently
talking to some US producers/distributors, I found that they all thought the
Stateside dvd market was still worth pursuing. Yes, times are tough, yes,
lots of folk have stopped buying dvds - not to give up on porn - but to put
their money into Mr Slip`s pocket (or internet companies like him), but dvd
sales still make them useful dosh.
Funnily enough, I have just finished shooting a dvd feature ie a movie that
may well end up being chopped up on some website (not to mention
pirated in bits on lobstertube), but the main aim of its producers was dvd
release.

Frank, just open your eyes and look around. If things are so great how come you haven't got people like our old friend Bachman strolling around with $100,000 in a brief case ready to pay for helicopters or speedboats or whatever a director migh want? These are the 5 Horsemen of the Acopolypse of porn:

1/ Boredom
2/ Resistant STD's
3/ Legislation
4/ Speculative invoicing and other scams
5/ The erosion of porn's previously "Glamourous" image.

I don't buy into this argument that "They'll always be another punter". Yes but will there always be another, "Paying" punter?

The whole sex market has transformed while most of us have been sleeping. Ten years ago I remember making a swingers series for TVX, we travelled the length and breadth of the UK going to swingers clubs that were generally half full. A friend was telling me he recently went to such a club and there was an enormous car park actually packed with cars and literally hundreds of people having sex.

The spectacular rise of Adultwork is inversely proportional to the collapse of porn, doesn't this tell you something?

No longer are people willing to fulfill their sex lives by grabbing a dodgy DVD and have a wank. They want to do it for REAL. Whether it's having fun with a gorgoues escort or attending an orgy at a swingers club, gone are the days when they would sit aghast as some Euro-stud with bandana and shades fucks a Dolly Buster lookalike or some Brit, going, "Whey hey hey, missus, fancy a shag?".

You may mock me , you may scoff, but lets re-visit this topic in say 5 years time. I can see us both wearing coats tied up with string and clutching bottles of meths, shouting and swearing, "Porn will never die, Jim now pass me another bevvy ya cunt, here's an empty can 'o beans wot I found if ya quick ya can scrape the mould orff the bottom and get some dried sauce!" !wink!

The release of "Fifty Shades of Grey" (now the UK best ever selling series) as done wonders for this industry, Ann Summers sales are up by massive percentages & the swinging scene as Jimslip said as now grown to an all known high as bored wives are finding life can be fun again , we are averaging 1-2 private shoots a week just for randy housewives who have read the book & want to put their toes in the water.

The industry as gone from DVD/web sites to reality e.g. AW, web cams, parties, sex for real & real home made amateur films, people working in the industry have found these 3 books might have given life to a stale industry & the sensible ones will use this to cash in & adapt for a totally new accept to the porn they knew.

New porn shouldn't just be made for guys as its always been as there are now a brand new audience of women with juiced up hormones who need feeding lol!

I agree, over the last decade, "Watchers" have turned into, "Do-ers". Jimslip.com is actually growing, but that does not alter the fact the the main industry is rapidly shrinking. I don't adhere to the, "I'm alright Jack" philosophy, if us and others continue to do well, it would be a stupid man or woman who put two fingers up to those who are suffering and said, "Ya boo sucks to you, ha! ha! ha!".

Things are changing dramatically and no one really knows why, but it is changing all the time whether we want to believe it or not. It has nothing to do whether it is "Reality" porn or, "Big budget", the punters are on the move!

I think there is a whole ground-shift of people who previously loved porn away to other entertainment, whether it be chatting to someone, webcam, or "Hands on".

It is a foolish person who, "Fiddles while Rome burns", possibly an inappropriate term in this topic, lol
