I'm thinking of getting a tablet PC.
I have my eye on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2. 7 inch screen. 16 Gb.
Any views on tablet PCs generally and this one in particular?
I don't want a iPad.
Don't want to spend that kind of money and I want to watch BBC iPlayer on whatever I buy and I know iPads do not support flash player.
Also, do you need virus protection for a tablet pc?
Thanks

Dont by apple -
never liked Apple products, too expensive and not good value.
Yes you need to look at virus protection.
think on how you are going to use it - what about one that runs a windows based system then you can link in with your home pc ? there are some good tablet laptop combos that look enticingly attractive lol
Memory is the crux ensure that you get one with enough to keep you going and that you can expand if required.
I do like the galaxythough and think its a good un

I bought the 7 inch Galaxy last year and it's a great bit of kit but the small screen let's it down a bit when you're surfing.
I've upgraded to the 10.1 Galaxy and I can't really fault it. I don't use it for games so I can't comment on them but for on-line, media and as an e-reader it's a solid piece of gear.
You can get AVG free for android and it seems to do the job.

If you only want a 7" screen get the Nexus 7. It's Google's officially supported tablet and so has the latest Android release (Jelly Bean). Newer and faster too.

I'm not suggesting that Spider should buy an iPad but Apple products are far more reliable than any PC manufacturer. I've been using Macs since 1989 and I have never had one go wrong. My first iMac cost ?999 in August 1999 and it was still working when I sold it last year. I've never had a PC that's lasted longer than about three or four years.

Thanks for the feedback.
I was looking at the Samsung Galaxy Tab2 7 inch.
I will be using it mainly to surf the Net and after the comments above I now need to consider whether I want to pay out another ? 60 for the 10.1 inch version.
I have had a look at the Nexus 7 and the thing that I don?t like about that is that you can not expand the memory.
I know you can plug a 32 gb Micro SD card into the Samsung Galaxy. If I were to get a 16 gb version Tab2 I could extend the memory to 48 gb later by using a Micro SD card.
I might have another look at it though.
Thanks for the advice regarding AVG Free for Android. I?ll have a look at that.
I don?t really want an iPad because I don?t want to pay out that kind of money and I want something that will support flash so I can look at iplayer, youtube etc.
I need to go away again and think about the options.
Thanks again.

Can I ask why you'd want so much storage on such a small tablet?
I have 1580 tracks (107.2 hours of music) in my music folder, on my PC, ripped at a VBR of around 250kbps (some are ripped at 320kbps) and that comes in at a shade over 12gb. I have about half of my most listened to music (around 8gb) on my phone and that's still around 700 songs.
You could get 5 or 6 720p movies + 30 or 40 albums on a device and still come in under 16gb. Surely enough to get you through a week away from home. And if you're at home and want to watch stuff on your tablet in bed, you can stream via your wireless network so storage is unnecessary.
The only thing the Samsung has going for it is the upgradeable storage. The Nexus 7 is faster, has a better gpu (good for watching movies and games without stuttering), a far better screen so you can watch your movies in HD, and the latest Android version. It wins hands down.

You can view iplayer, youtube etc on an iPad via apps, so unless you need flash for something specific like games, it shouldn't be a problem.
Rumour is they'll be a 7" iPad released soon, if that tickles your trout.

What's the battery life on the Nexus? I can get 7 hours of video with the Samsung 7 but I haven't tested the 10.1 yet.

A 7" iPad? A size Steve Jobs said would be DOA (dead on arrival).
