The Olympics... two days after it ends...

I am wondering how much we will be talking about the Olympics, just two days after the closing ceremony. It is obviously all over the media now and everyone is chatting about it, but I have just remembered how the Millennium vanished from our minds by 3rd January 2000. People will recall the build up to that was so huge it was like the second coming of Christ, it was a huge deal on New Years Day but two days after the wild celebrations it was never mentioned again. It just suddenly stopped being a big deal and was not talked about. Some big events are savoured for long after and are continually talked about - Live Aid is one example. You would think the Millennium never happened even a couple of days later. I wonder what the deal with the Olympics will be - I suspect it will go out with a huge bang (closing ceremony, the big gig in Hyde Park, etc) but a couple of days after it will not be talked about at all and you would think it never happened.

I reckon within a couple of days it will be all forgotten. Also remember NOT everyone is interested in sport and many millions will be glad to see the back of the whole occasion.

One thing you will notice will be the jobless figure will shoot up.
On the run upto the games job centres were throwing people on courses for security and anything else that could be used for the games.
I was one of them,I got put on a warehouse course and have a temp job for the games at the main security site as a fork lift driver.
I am told I have a job till about the 14th of sept. Then I expect to be back to the dole office to sign on again.

There are various interpretations of "forgotten". Will it be on everyone`s
thoughts once it vanishes off the telly ? Of course not. Will the London
Olympics be brought up from time to illuminate a sporting point or a
nostalgic moment ? I think it will. And you can be sure my friends that
just before the Rio Olympics various "great British moments" will re-appear
to haunt your TV screens ad nauseum.

As a City supporter you should remember the Manchester Commonwealth Games of 2002 every time you see a picture of the Eithiad stadium. It was the Games wot got it built!

I don't think it will be forgotten.
The poor sodding taxpayer, and especially the poor sodding London Council taxpayer, will be shelling out for it for years and years.

And, of course, the irony is that Etihad is Arabic for united or union.

Not according to Boris Johnson. If you read his manifesto when he stood for re-election as Mayor of London, he says that after the games are over the London Council taxpayer will never have to pay another penny for them.
