Ed Milliband bank reform.

Post by jimslip »

Ed Milliband is promising a "Root and branch" review of the banking system. In fact he promises to tear the banking system apart if and when Labour get back into power. Personally I think it is very easy when in opposition to make radical promises like this, a bit like the Tories promising to dismantle New Labour's police state. However, unlike some on here, I will always give credit where its due and if Labour wants to fuck things up for the banks then I say, "Go get the bastards, that's what Labour is SUPPOSED to do!"

However, what I found very interesting indeed during Ed Millibands broadcast this morning on News 24, was that he allowed himself to be filmed in front of, nay, nestled amongst, two giant Union flags! Now forgive me for asking, but wasn't the posing in front of, or in fact any association with the Union flag banned or certainly scorned under the last lot of New Labour PC nutballs? Wouldn't "Offenders" been branded "Racist?"

Didn't anyone notice that the only people who displayed the Union flag when New Labour were in charge, were the BNP? Now you see them outside many peoples houses and the first thing that doesn't come to mind is, "Racist!"

Maybe Labour and the Country is purging itseelf of it's old New Labour PC nutters, or are they just lying quietly in waiting, ready to pounce, if and when Labour regain power. I like to think maybe those days are now gone and the PC Nuttaz are a thing of the past and the modern Labour party would be as happily rid of them as would many on here!

Maybe, the "Guardian of New Labour", DJ is like one of those Japanese soldiers at the end of WW2, who were marooned on islands on the South seas. Noone had told them the war was over and they stood guard, crazily defending the Emperor till the last man was left standing, who would then commit Harakiri? Somone needs to tell DJ, "New Labour have gone now, mate, come and sit down and I'll explain everything that's happened over a cup of tea!"

Go on Ed, go the full hog and get a suit made up out of a Union Jack!

I know you will flame me for this Jimbo and DJ will probably have a seizure but I tend to agree with some of Milliebland's ideas. Everyone of us dances to the bankers tune and it has to stop.

!ambulance! !ambulance! Aargh, aargh, aargh, aargh. Phew, bit of a turn there.

I think Miliband is winning the ideas argument. He was right to drag Cameron into setting up a judicial inquiry into phone hacking and to pressurise the police to pull their finger out.

When last year Miliband talked about "predatory capitalism" and "responsible capitalism" a lot of people laughed at him but looking at the banks' activities, we all understand what "predatory capitalism" means.

And when he went on about the "squeezed middle ", we can now see what he was on about, once the cuts started hitting. People who are working but hardly being able to keep their heads above water financially.

And I think he is right about the need to have a judicial inquiry that is wide-ranging into banking to run alongside the Serious Fraud inquiry into Libor fixing.

But as Jim rightly says (cue Jim seizure) it is a lot easier to talk about this in opposition than it is to deliver once in power. We need to see specific policies well before the next election that are going to deliver. Policies that get implemented when elected.

Miliband has certainly grown into the job. From seeming to be fairly useless in Prime Ministers Questions, he now regularly trounces Cameron who is often reduced to bully boy, never answer the question type tactics. And Cameron and Osborne have gone from appearing very sure of themselves in mid-2010 to appearing largely clueless now. So much for the coalition made up of "the greenest government on record" and "cuts not affecting front-line services" Tories and the "new type of politics" Cleggie led Lib Dems.
