Evening All,

I believe there are several forum posters that either live in Budapest, or stay there a lot.

I'm orf there myself next week, for 3 nights/4 days.

Can anyone please recommend anything/anywhere that I should go and see, or do?

Jim and Frank, to my knowledge, I judge you to be the potential Gurus on this matter, so any experiences, or info you can provide, will be most welcome.

Budapest is a lovely city and there are plenty of tourist guides which would be a good idea to buy. Watch out for the Airport Minibus at the airport, which will take you to your address and when you are ready to leave phone them the day befre and they will pick you up again. Most of the nice "Touristy" bits are in a square mile around the Marriot Hotel by the Danube. This is a great place for a happy hour cocktail, where you can sit outside by the Danube whilst sipping your drink. You could go and see The House of Terror, which is a museum to the Commie bastards who used to run the place and you can see examples of their gross corruption and brutality. Or you can see the Dead Body Exhibition which is running there, you know the place they have all those corpses encased in plastic for all to gawp at! If the weather is nice Budapest is a lovely place to just wander about, for Italian food try the Millenium Pippo. For a cheap lunch, The Marriot and of course there are many Hungarian restuarants, but avoid the ones right in the centre, with someone in National costume outside, these are ususally shit.I am sure you'll have a lovely time and try not to have a heart attack watching the beautiful girls go by!!grin!

Thanks for the good info Jim. I shall definitely go to some of the places you mention. I'll remember to wear my letching shades. Thanks again.

Bamboo I would agree with everything that Jim has said. Avoid Vaci Utca
- the pedestrian tourist street - at night when pretty girls ask you to buy
them a drink or light their cigarette (they just wanna get you into a clip
joint with extortionate prices for drinks). Take the airport minibus service
to your hotel. But if you decide on a taxi take it from the office in the
terminal (Ferihegy 2) or just outside the main entrance (Ferihegy 1).
Things to see and do.....take a boat up the Danube....visit the House of
Terror Museum if you want to understand more about Hungary in WW 2 and
how the poor bastards suffered under the Commies (tour finishes in the
grisly torture cells of the secret police). Visit the gothic Parliament and
see the Imperial Crown etc. If you like a glass of wine I recommend any
bottles from the Josef Bock vineyard or try the Divino wine bar in the lovely
Basilica square (also great place for looking at pretty girls).

Good man Frank, sounds like good advice to prevent me being ripped orf, by taxis and young ladies. I shall buy you and Jim a virtual glass of merlot as thanks.

If taking the boat trip, I would suggest you get off at Margaret's Island (sorry can't recall the local spelling) and wander around there for an hour or so until the next boat comes along to take you back. When the weather is sunny, there are plenty of sexy girls sunbathing topless (at least that was the case when I was last there!)
