I think you'd find that being a so called, "Metal thief" is far beyond the ability of a typical, "Chav". You see it would involve a certain amount of effort and the average "Chav" would say, "I can't be arsed with taking a plaque or climbing on a church roof, or whatever, when I can just stay in bed and collect my bennies!"

It is alleged that most metal "Re-distribution operatives" hail now from the, "Travelling community", scrap metal has always been their, thing, and now with the explosion in metal prices they are, "Re-distributing", every thing and anything they can find. Lead on roofs, copper cabling on railway sidings, obviously memorials. If you have gold fillings I suggest you sleep with a crash helmet on!

I expect to get a severe scolding, as will you, for repeating this allegation, by our very own, "Political Correctness and multi-diversity enforcement officer" David Johnson.

I predict his explanation for these thefts will be, "Thanks to brutal Tory cuts, which are now even causing unusual sunspot activity, the brave and formidable working classes of Britain have been forced to re-distribute the wealth contained in "scrap" metal to the poor and needy. You must explain to me, Jim, the big difference between a "chav" and a
"gypsy" (lets call a spade a spade on this forum), since you say metal
theft is a "travellers" (stupid term) crime.
I think we can agree it is basically a working class crime in that it requires
some hard labour on the part of the criminal and I don`t envisage some
Moriarty-like member of the middle class masterminding all these thefts
of late.
All I know is if I caught a chav or gypsy trying to steal the lead off a nice
english country church or the steel plaque of some small-town war
memorial to the glorious dead, I would promptly bash the bastard - whatever
his social background - promptly in the bollocks !!
