We in the UK dont know the full extent of what is happening over there - we get drips of info and unless you know someone over there or pay particular interest to the goings on then you would be oblivious to what a mess it is. They are saying that they want to put in a government and train up the police - will never happen as they are backward - many generations backward and they want to keep it like that keep the intelligence of the people low and then piss all over them with the drugs trade - a lot of profit to be made. very few get rich and the rest live in squalor. Look at the place its a shite hole. and why are we still there ?

Very sad news again today.

The whole of the Afghanistan expedition started by Blair and continued by Cameron was based on the mistaken belief that you could destroy a radical terrorist group based on a particular distorted view of religion by taking over a country.

The radical terrorist groups in Somalia, Nigeria, Pakistan etc and the fact that the 7/7 bombers were British born and trained in Pakistan highlights the idiocy of that idea.

The Afghanistan involvement is now twice as long as the Second World War and yet the vast majority of commentators I have read, suggest that as soon as the western troops leave, the Taliban will take over and as Spider points out, Karzai with his anti-women legislation seems to be hedging his bets already.

Yes, same old, same old....this topic keeps cropping up, but understandaby so....to see such a wretched waste of British life in such a
no-win shitty war. God knows we Brits have wasted gallons of blood on
Afghanistan`s sands since 1838 and not one drop of it mattered much.

Agree with the comments here, It's a piss poor waste of life, the Army can't melt away into the night, but the towelheads can, it's a no win situation. To hear Cameron and Milliband today talking about our brave men and women dying to keep us safe nearly made me hurl. They were talking about training the Afghan army and police so that they could take over, I call that deluded and an insult to peoples inelligence.

I was reading in the local paper the other day about a village near me dedicating a memorial to a soldier killed in Afghanistan who had been awarded the VC.

I thought, this is news to me I hadn't realised a local lad had been killed and awarded a VC recently.

It was only when I read further that it became clear that this was a re-dedication of a memorial (that had been cleaned and repaired) to a VC winner from the second Afghan war of 1878-1880.

We never learn.
