I was interested to see the winners are in for the most bizarre real
book titles published in english in 2011.
The winners are: "A Century Of Sand Dredging In The Bristol Channel
Vol 2 " which begs me to ask who in God`s name bought Vol I....
and the exquisitely titled " Cooking With Poo! " As all educated folk
know, "poo" is the thai word for "crab" !!

I went into a local pub once and the landlord was perusing a huge coffee table book, sumptuously illustrated. From a distance, it looked like the sort of art book you might buy at Xmas for someone who had just been to a Leonardo da Vinci exhibition.
On closer inspection, I saw it was called "A History of Massey Ferguson Tractors Volume 2."
Each to their own.
mmmmm....tractors.

Nothing stirs my withers on a farm as much as the sight of an old grey Fergie. Wonderful old tractor, first made in the UK in Huddersfield by the David Brown company, and very advanced for the time in the design of its patented linkage system.

My dad had one. I used to drive it. The starter switch was a position on the gear lever. To save money, as soon as it warmed up, you could switch the fuel over from petrol to' tractor vapourising oil' (a rough sort of paraffin) This stuff was so dirty that you were always taking the spark plugs out to clean them.

I'm currently reading PornLand by Gail Dines because I enjoy reading things that are thought provoking and wind me up.
Call me weird
She does make some good points but loses steam when you read beyond all this good argument is a veiled hatred of porn because she hates the freedom younger prettier girls have to get laid and paid and for all her academia tries to make out that the porn industry is one big malevolent and faceless corporation when she should realise at the heart of it is what the people really want because its regular people that fuel it.

Nothing against tractors, nothing wrong with Tractors.
Years ago I did (read) for a degree in History and Politics and one of the essays I had to write was on the Black Death. Rummaging around the University library I found a weighty tome entitled:
'The Eroticism Of The Black Death'.
Can't remember the authors name and never tried to look for it since but the Prof had the hump when the aforementioned title appeared in my bibliography!
The disbelieving git didn't believe the tome existed!
