I was watching these old slap-stick classics the other night PML, they were made in the 1930's. It's funny how these days they go on about, "Violence on TV" causing all sorts of problems with the kids in society, check these out! The "3 Stooges" at their most psychotic!

You watched Tom & Jerry? Hilarious, but if you think about it, uber violent. It got away with it because it was a cartoon.

Itchy and Scratchy (on The Simpsons) play on it to overkill to hilarious effect too

I'm very much of the opinion, and i'm sure people have did studies and psychologists will say i'm wrong. But no matter what they say i truly believe that violence on the small screen or the large no matter how strong it is, how gory, gruesome, relevant or irrelevant. Used for cheap thrills or titillation causes no one any harm. Unless of course they don't like it, then simple...don't watch it.

I simply can't agree with the logic that i watched something on a film therefore i went out and killed someone. The person is wrong, imbalanced, fucked up, long before he saw the film or it had any bearing on any act he/she may commit. And again experts will probably say there are links. Bollocks i say. If you can't differentiate from whats going on in a movie to real life then you are seriously disturbed!

I agree Meatus. That accusation of porn and violence being responsible for the social ills of this world is total rubbish.

Try and subject the world to lovey dovey nice films and music and people will use the same excuse that those things made them violent because it ruined their illusion of the world

Loved the Three Stooges as a kid but even then (age eight), I detected
a rather unpleasant psychosis about them. Today I find them extremely
unfunny.
Oddly enough a "new" updated Three Stooges movie is about to hit
screens this Spring. Watching the trailer I confess if you are a fan of them
you may love it. Otherwise it will leave you cold. On general release soon.

I used to think that Meatus, but now I;m not so sure. Take advertising, companies would not spend billions on advertising if it did not work, put something on TV enough, say a catch phrase, a way of speaking, a gesture and someone will copy it. Take this to it's extreme and show some horrific scene where someone gets butchered, and SOME sick fuck somewhere will copy it. I am convinced of that. A girl I used to see years and years ago used to say " I can watch any amount of pornography and it doesn't bother me, but I can't watch violence, what's the point"

She went on to become an axe murderer.

I think these mediums like ads, films etc can influence people in all sorts ways, but I'm not sure whether they are able to make people do things that they normally wouldn't do. For example look at all the computer games featuring images of American, uber macho soldiers bristling with weaponry and gunning down all in their path.

I am not aware of a huge increase in volunteers into either our armed services or the American equivalents, why? Because in their heart of hearts gamers know the chances are that they'll moore likely take a hit in the head from a sniper, as they're getting off the plane, long before they wage war for blood, glory and Freedom!

They know it's all a load of bollocks really, just a bit of fun! Just like the Stooges trying to bash open Moe's glued up eye with a hammer and a screw driver!
