Neville Lawrence..

I have always felt very sorry for this man, and for his estranged wife aswell, and I was heartened by something he said this week in an interview. He said that he hasn't been able to dance in 18 years because of what happened to his son and the Police's later bungling of the investigation, but he said that now two people have been sent down for the murder he was at a friend's party last weekend and he "danced for the first time in 18 years". It seems that he is now able to move on with his life and start to live again.
He said this week that he left Britain because of fears for his own safety. I was not sure if he meant he felt unsafe because he had become so high profile since the murder of his son and nasty people may want to harm him specifically because of that, or if he meant he felt unsafe as a black person in general just living in Britain. I seem to recall that the Lawrence's are from Plumstead in south-east London, I remember this being said on TV years ago. Plumstead is not far from Eltham where Stephen was murdered. I also recall Neville saying on TV some years ago that he was living in Tottenham years later and was afraid to use the Tube in case someone attacked him on the platfrom and pushed him in front of a train - so it seems likely his desire to leave Britain was specifically to do with him being so high profile more than just being a black person in general living in Britain.
I wish him and Doreen all the best now that those two nasty individuals have been sentenced.
