Boxing Day has never really been a day of rest for me. It was previously playing rugby or riding and now it's watching rugby or horses. I must say the queues were longer getting into the retail park on Monday.

Boxing Day was a day when the shops were closed, is that so bad? Is it so bad to be denied another day of shopping?

What you have to ask yourself is how long will it be before even Christmas Day becomes just another shopping day? All we hear on the TV from concerned broadcasters is the question, "How much will consumers spend on the high st this year?" in other words, "Will the billionaires that own the chains make even more profits than usual?"

Like, do I give a flying fuck, if the Top Shop boss can ship a few more ?Millions this Xmas, over to his wife in Monaco, without paying a penny in tax?

No I don't. Give us back Boxing Day!

The answer may be to nationalise them. We could then not just have 2 days off of shopping but a whole week and the question of fat cats not paying up wouldn't come into the equation.

I totally agree that Boxing Day, and also the Bank Holiday day if Boxing Day is a Saturday or Sunday, should have the same trading restrictions as Easter Sunday.
The stores would actually win as they would still get the same sales on the 27th and onwards without the overheads of opening on the 26th.

Are there legal trading restrictions already for Christmas Day or are the closures voluntary? If the latter legalisation should be brought in to cover this too.

I am for 24 hour opening 365 days a year. Some people in the UK would have the shops shut on Sundays and Boxing Day if they could and I bet given the POWER they would close trading on the internet too, no thanks we have never been happier, the supermarket and the big shopping centres are like the new pubs , it's like entertainment, if you ever walk down the supermarket tv aisle, you'll see lots of blokes checking the 50inch's etc it is enjoyable so my vote is Open on Boxing Day!
