Some unforgettable images....Amanda Donohoe in those thigh boots
as the villainess in "Lair of the White Worm" and, best of all, Ann-
Margaret smothered in a deluge of baked beans, chocolate and
champagne in "Tommy" ! An over-the-top but fab director !

I remember seeing re-runs of some of his early stuff that he did for the Beeb on composers.
I thought it was fantastic and the whole dramatisation of their lives set to their music was innovatory at the time as well as being visually stunning.
It is very sad that he was more or less ignored by the film business for the last decade or two.

I don't think the poor fellow ever got over meeting Jade Goodey and her mother on Celebrity Big Brother. I genuinely think he did not know that such people existed until then!

Sad to say that for the last 10-15 years of his life he couldn't have got himself arrested never mind another feature. His early work for the BBC on the 'Monitor' series of films in the 60s remains eminently watchable to this day.

There was an excerpt of him on the radio news talking of getting a script knocked back by C4. The reason .. it was deemed to be 'uncinematic'. The title of the script was 'Vampire Vigilantes'. I think it would be greenlighted now, uncinematic or not.
