It looks like the same approach is being used here.

Workers should lose their right to claim unfair dismissal according to a recently produced report.

The report - commissioned by the prime minister - argues this would mean more capable people would replace those sacked, boosting economic growth.

And who produced this masterstroke of worker rights erosion? Adrian Beecroft, a venture capitalist and Conservative Party donor.

The coalition government has previously stated it is committed to reforming employment laws. Chancellor George Osborne recently announced new measures aimed at restricting the number of unfair dismissal claims.

As we all know forumites, not only is it all New Labour's fault that we are in an economic mess, but it is also down to the UK workforce having all these unnecessary workers rights such as unfair dismissal and horrible Health and Safety legislation.

I think the employment law in the UK has gone to far in favour of the employee and needs bringing to the middle fairness on both sides...

BUT typical of the UK it will swing back and forwards by who'se in power at the time... so its all bollocks really and the UK will never move forward in a fair way..

ThATS WHY UNEMPLOYMENT ALWAYS GROWS WHEN THE TORIES ARE IN POWER AND THE PUBLIC SERVICES GET RUN DOWN,BECAUSE THE RICH DONT LIKE THEM AND NEVER USE THEM. uNTIL THE PUBLIC WAKE UP AND STOP voting how the sun newspaper tells them to then we are fucked.

I suspect the underlying issue in this country with a Tory government is the belief that workers rights holds back growth. This is based on the view that workers are a necessary evil that have to be given minimal rights to ensure that senior managers and owners can weave their entrepreneurial magic.

The German approach of workers councils has shown this is nonsense and in many cases, workers can have much more feasible, realistic ideas about cutting costs and growing the business that employs them than their bosses for the obvious reason that people on the shop floor understand the minutiae of that business.

In Britain, many business owners/CEOs seem to regard their workforce as the enemy and the Tory government which they support, bangs on about "cutting red tape" i.e. employees rights to get growth.
