'I think we were careless and a lack of concentration kills us,' Ferguson said. 'We threw the game away really and I think it's a wake-up call, losing three goals at home you have to be better than that in terms of concentration. '

far better to just quote what he actually said
"Sir Alex Ferguson labelled his players "careless" and "lax" after Basle came close to inflicting a home humiliation on Manchester United."
"We played with too many forward on the pitch tonight, far too many. I think that is possibly because we were playing a team like Basle, who in the players' minds, although we prepared properly, are a team where they can do that.
"In doing that, they left so many gaps in the back four and really if everybody had concentrated on the defensive part, I don't think we would have had so many problems."

"far better to just quote what he actually said"
Which is this:
"I feared the worst. Some our forward play in the first half was absolutely fantastic, but there was always that lax attitude at the back and they were creating chances. We were fortunate not to have lost a couple of goals before half-time. Equally though we could have scored four or five. We said to the players at half-time you can make this game easy or hard for yourselves. And we made it hard. The attacking instinct in the team meant we got really exposed in midfield and at the back. There's sometimes a tendency to enjoy that part, particularly at home, but in big game situations you would anticipate better defending and better concentration. Yes, we've been making changes to the back four, too many times maybe at the moment, but nonetheless they can do better than that."
