At least the NHS was looked after when he was PM.

Typical of Channel 4 to do a hatchet job on a labour politician the day before the leaders speech. They did the same last year with Ed Milliband, trying to paint him as some kind of communist.

Well apart from the ?12 billion tossed away on the failed computer system of course and all the pointless quangos oh yes and the influx of medical staff that can't speak English.

I guess it is all relative!

On the subject of quangos, best to steer clear. Lansley has vastly increased the bureaucracy in the NHS. Mainly because originally GP commissioning was due to be setup everywhere in England in a couple of years. The latest plans allow GP commissioning to happen when GP groups are ready. The result is that there is a mix of old and new structures together

http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2011 ... -structure

In addition, because the original plans were hopelessly optimistic, primary care trusts were told to start sacking people i.e. commissioners in the old system before the law had even being debated. So now we have the not particularly cost effective system in which primary care trust workers, sacked with redundancy payments are now being re-employed.

As for the safe in our hands bit, Stephen Dorrell a Tory ex Health Minister has stated that no NHS system in the developed world has ever had to make the "savings" that Cameron is asking the NHS to implement.

May be one of the reasons why waiting lists are soaring. Get that hip operation quick!

Cheers
D

Wonder if it mentions his "friendship" with an Israeli Billionaire's wife.....that'll go down well with the Arab "peace" negotiators.....

Interesting programme. Blair is clearly poacher and game-keeper at the same time. It's interesting how they revealed the address of his secret office, which has no sign on it and is not officially listed anywhere. It is a very anonymous building, they showed it on the TV (the address is 9 Grosvenor Square, London, W1 - for those who missed the programme).
