That caftan-coat wearing, cigar chomping, sleaze-broker Max Clifford has been awarded ?1 million by Rupert Murdoch's outfit for having his phone hacked. I think it's appalling he has been given that much money. Where was the negative thing to his life, there wasn't anything, where as there where many negatives to the Dowler family - namely the hackers deleting messages on Milly's phone gave the impression that Milly might still be alive.

I saw Max Clifford interviewed on the London Evening News today (Tuesday) and he is standing in the street, at an angle, with an expensive car behind him. As I watched the interview, I noticed part of the number plate says 'MAX'. He clearly insisted to the camera crew that his motor be shown-off behind him in the interview. This guy has a huge ego, thinks very highly or himself, and is also a sleazebag.

Max Clifford, who dishes the dirt and embarasses many people through the tabloids, and gets rich doing it, has now been awarded ?1m for the supposed indignity of being listened-in to on the phone. What a tosser!

The reason he was given so much money by News International is very straightforward. He was bought off. The same happened with Taylor, the Football Players Union guy. Clifford won the settlement early last year. Taylor in 2009.

At that point, News International were determined to close down the phone hacking story at all costs. Their line was that it was a single rogue reporter, who was the Royal correspondent. And then cases started coming out of the woodwork like Taylor and Clifford that had nothing to do with royal stories which potentially if they had run their course would have shown that the News International line was bollocks.

So what News International did in order to buy silence so that they could continue with this single rogue reporter line was to pay way over the odds to Taylor and Clifford so that they would drop their cases and not discuss any of the evidence pertinent to them.

If either Taylor and Clifford had brought their cases now, when the News International line has been completely blown apart with NOW reporters and executives being arrested all over the place, I doubt if they would have received anywhere near as much.

David, that's interesting. Clifford (and his car) were on the London Evening News for Clifford to talk about the ?2m the Dowler family got. When the interviewer mentioned the ?1m he got himself, Clifford seemed a bit uneasy but talked about it as he had no choice.

Max Clifford is not someone I would like to know. He also hugely exagerates his past. He once claimed he was the publicist for The Beatles back in the 1960s but it turned out he was just a junior clerk in the company which represented the band.

I think the reason that the Dowler family apparently are getting ?2 million is, I guess, blood money.

It was the Millie Dowler phone hacking story that took the NOTW story to a completely different level. Prior to that, I suspect that the general public viewed it purely as a story affecting celebs and a few footballers. Once the Millie Dowler story broke, it became a story of a completely different order.

So the ?2 million is a kind of PR mea culpa on behalf of News International as they try (bit of a mission impossible, I would have thought) to rebuild their reputation.

That's how he makes his money. He's got a high standard of living so that million should come in handy for the MOT and service to whatever expensive car he owns

Simon Cowell reported pays his "good friend" (as claimed on This Is Your Life) Max Clifford some three-quarters of a million pounds a year for reputation management.e.g. suppressing rumours that Cowell might bat for the other side, or that under the cuntish exterior, he really is a cunt.

If all Max's clients are so generous, I doubt the million from the Screws bothered him that much, and if it suited his agenda he'd break the gagging order in a heartbeat.

As OEJ says, it's the game that's corrupt, and Clifford plays the game better than most, but I still can't shake the image that he's a slimy twat who would sell his own mother if necessary.
