Tottenham riot:: the truth (apparently)...

Post by max_tranmere »

I spoke to someone today whose brother lives in Tottenham and he told me something I hadn't heard before about the riot in August. He said the word on the manor is that it wasn't the Police shooting Mark Duggan that caused it, it was what the Police did when a crowd of onlookers started to gather to watch what was happening. Apparently (according to his brother) one of the coppers belted a bystander with his truncheon, knocked her to the ground and left her there. This apparently sent the community over the edge. So there it is kids, word from the 'hood. Has anyone else heard any other 'inside' stories about this? I would be interested in hearing them.

I heard it was because policeman threw an out-of-date tortilla wrap off the top of the BT Tower which went straight through the roof of the 73 bus to Islington and hitting a black, teenage mother of five, knocking her straight through the fire-door and into the path of an obese Polish person with one leg, riding a mobility scooter (paid for by our hard-earned taxes I might add!). The local black community interpreted this as a race-hate crime by the East Europeans and the East Europeans suspected a fit-up by the MET.

Remember, it's only what I heard so don't shoot the messenger!

Tortilla wraps are more aerodynamic, and thus will have a higher terminal velocity than a similarly-weighted sandwich. This gives my story marginally more credibility !happy!

I heard it was caused because a black drug dealer was killed by a white police officer crashing a jumbo jet into the taxi and it was all part of the white conspiricsy against the "black man"

Strewth

There will be a different version of the truth from everyone there that day making all your "truths" possible

Whats the point of discussing how it kicked off. it did and its over. Its like 9/11 no one will know the real truth.

So Max, is this claim by your friend supported by another hundred or so bystanders as it seems a bit different from the official report that the police told the family to go home and closed the shutters on the public

I don't know if lots of other people are telling the same story, but this is what I heard. He isn't a middle-class honky either, he's a working-class black dood and would therefore be more likely to hear about what is going on from the doods on the manor. I think how it started is important because it means the Police can take steps to avoid doing that thing again, therefore decreasing the chances of another riot.

I would have thought that some 'doods on the manor' might not be the most reliable of witnesses as to the cause. But as they say, we all have our own truths.
