I can't really see what these people are doing wrong. If the police are unable to protect you , your family and your property, then it makes perfect sense for the community to take steps to protect itself. Why is it "Right wing" to do so? I heard a guy on the radio who was part of one of these groups, he wasn't a BNP supporter, just a terrified individual, worried for his family and business.
In a sense it gives us all hope that in the event of a total breakdown in society, people will rise up and try to protect themselves and their property. Of course Right Wing groups will try to take advantage, but most people are not quite as stupid as you might think.
These looters and rioters will scarper at the first sign of any proper opposition, they are spineless, morally redundant cowards. If they were anything lk the rioters that fought the Russian tanks during the Hungarian revolution of 1956, then we'd be all in DEEP SHIT! But they are not, they are simply thieves.

Yep, I wondered that. Wonder if the OP thinks that the 700 sikhs who took to the streets to defend their temples from attack were being right wing too?

But you equally condemn them, surely? What do you think would have happened if their temple had been attacked? Community leaders engaging in dialogue? Or a good punch up?

The problem may manifest if the guy at the start gets what he is looking for, and it may likely be a bullet between the eyes and machete to the face. People who usually go looking for trouble almost certainly always find it.
I wonder if he was one the guys that were involved
here.
This planet is fcuked, plan and simple. Too many hot heads on every single side.

Exactly, and thus condemnation should be spread across all sides, too.

Peter, Welcome to the crazy world of political correctness. In this world if you and your neighbours who own property or cars or businesses, take steps to protect yourselves from a group of looting thugs, from the so called, "Underclass", black or white, you are deemed either Right Wing, a Daily Mail Reader and probably a closet racist. You see, in the "Right on" world of the Leftie PC nutter, "All property is theft",( well that is apart from their tidy little houses) and really you should simply GIVE your property to the so called underclass. Political Correctness is actually Marxism in disguise.
The problem is with the PC brigade, they haven't got an answer for the Asians forming groups to protect themselves. So they simply ignore the issue and hope it will go away.
You see the dilema here is one so called "victim" group having protect itself from another, "victim" group. I suspect the PC brigade would deem all Asians are loaded and capitalists so fair enough, let their shops be torched.
Welcome to the very core of New Labour thinking and a disease which has spread throughout the other parties as well. It will take violent disorder to shake off the manacles of this mindset.
Remember these are New Labour offspring which are tearing the cities apart. New Labour that nurtured a culture that laughed at taking responibility for your actions, sneered at people that worked hard and simply labelled anyone that dared complain as Right Wing racists or Daily Mail readers.
And today they have the fucking bare faced cheek to blame the riots on "Tory cuts". They built the fire and lit it and now the country will burn whoever is in power.

Personally I see community groups getting together to defend their community as potentially, very positive.
If householders can use "reasonable force" to defend their homes when they come under attack from burglars/looters, I don't see why people should not be able to use "reasonable force" to defend their communities when they come under attack. This has already happened in the sense that there were stories of Turkish restaurant owners and their staff in North London chasing rioters away who were threatening to attack their businesses.
Where the problem lies, as turan points out, is when you get groups getting together potentially just to knock seven bells out of anyone who looks like a looter without any evidence one way or other or any attempt to cause trouble i.e. groups of young lads getting together to look for a ruck with some ethnic minority or other. That will just make the situation even worse.
I will ignore the New Labour rubbish. !wink!
Cheers

"I will ignore the New Labour rubbish."
At least you acknowledge they are rubbish. It's a start, well done.
