I think it's rather pathetic. The dog was called Nigger, deal with it. I've seen magazine adverts from the 50s which describe a product as "nigger brown", the word did not have the racial connotations in Britain then that it does now. Mind you, I'm not a big fan of Stephen Fry. I like Julie Burchill's description of him: "a stupid person's idea of what a clever person must be like."

Its intresting how history can now be rewritten so it wont casue offence to some groups and not others.
I naturally assume the that the rest of this film will be treated in the same manner such as no one dies be it air crew or germans after all what could be more distressing the word nigger or watching the depiction of when a loved one died.

Didn't Hitler and Stalin re-write history? Dangerous precedent....

But what can be better than a history that pleases everyone? When the dambusters is rebooted for the public in 50 more years we will all be able to rejoice that those evil Naz-ees the alien race that briefly invaded earth a long time ago got their just deserts when we bombed their damns.

You know this isn't a history lesson he's writing, yes? It's a film made for commercial purposes to make money.
Is the name of the dog really that important to worth risking insulting any potential customers, I think not.

Of course if this an American film it's going to be a US led raid with the USAF carrying-out the raid on the M?hne, Sorpe and Eder dams.
Did anyone see U 571?

No one re-writes history like the Yanks.

Things evolve over the years and mean something differnt later to what they meant before. Some people in Germany have said its appalling the Swastika is banned because it's a symbol that has existed for many centuries and didn't mean what Hitler enfed up making it mean, but people will always associate it with that. Just like the N-word now means something differnt to what it meant in Guy Gibson's day, people will always now interpret the term as meaning what we currently know it to mean. I wouldn't be surprised if as the years go on certain other terms stop being used for what they once were used for because a new association has come along for that word. The same will probably happen with some symbols too.
