Welsh Highland Railway

Based in Snowdonia, this is the longest heritage railway in the UK and runs from Caernarfon through Snowdonia to Beddgelert and then on to Porthmadog, not far from Portmeirion of Patrick McGoohan "Prisoner" fame.
Been on it a couple of times and on a sunny day it's absolutely stunningly beautiful. You travel through forests, past Snowdon, picture perfect villages like Beddgelert and the majority of journeys are pulled by steam locos.
Everybody seemed to be waving at the train that we passed and after awhile I felt like a character in the Railway Children and started waving back to everyone.
Fantastic daytrip if you are ever up in North Wales. Apparently Pete Waterman, he of Kylie and Astley fame, formally opened it today.
