Many forumites looked forward to the Con Dem government sweeping away some of the more over-zealous, shall we say, restrictions on civil liberties brought in by the Labour government.
These forumites would not have been over-impressed by Theresa May's radical re-think on control orders which included curfews being changed to "overnight residency requirements".
Further disappointment will occur, I suspect, with the latest release of CCTV video from the Met boys with the subject matter of people changing clothes.

Fashionista amongst forumites should keep in mind the following top tips if you know that you might be in a town at the same time as a demonstration.
1. Don't wear black. You could be taken for one of those anarchist, Black Block chappies who do incredibly violent, cruel things like throwing paint and smashing windows. Personally I would rather be in Tripoli than have to put up with that.
2. For God's sake, don't wear black and a hoodie, otherwise you could end up saying hello to your local friendly police.
3. Nor should you do country dancing with a group of other people in Fortnum and Masons unless you want to be charged with aggravated trespass which carries a criminal record and a potential gaol sentence.
4. Try to avoid going anywhere with your mates in a group.
5. Don't take a change of clothes even if you think it might piss down. Or alternatively don't change into your latest purchase from M&S before using your charm on the local ladies in that bar you fancied nipping into. Otherwise you might end up starring in your own video on national TV ahd have your picture plastered on newspaper front pages, inviting comments like "Bloody hell, that mauve jacket doesn't go with his eyes at all".
Go carefully now, ya hear?
Cheers
D
PS Note to Jim Slip. I know you don't like CCTV cameras. You know I think they have their uses, though I suspect the above is not one of them. Thank you.

Re: Police release video of people changing clothes
Really David, to coin your own favourite phrase, "You really need to try and think clearly!"
The use of video to expose a bunch of psychotic thugs hellbent on turning a peaceful march into a riot, is completely different to New Labours insidious and silent installation of thousands of CCTV cameras, throughout the UK, for no other reason than to collect tax, gain information and generally snoop on us all.
I mean to say, the police actually published their footage! Pathetic, in New Labours time they would have instinctively hidden it away for some kind of political use, at a later date.
I'm afraid in your crazed zeal to somehow compare the Coalition's amateurish attempts at state control to New Labour's expertly honed, Stalinist style techniques, you're right off target.
New Labour will always have the edge on snooping and control, David, they just can't help themselves, it's sort of "in their blood" I suppose.
I suggest you get back to the drawing board or stick to the "Plight of the ?250K per annum bureaucrats who might lose their jobs!"!grin!

Booked you in
I've just got off the blower from speaking to John Prescott.
As you know he runs the John Prescott Clinic for people with deep-seated phobias, like, for example, losing control when anyone mentions anything connected with New Labour.
I have explained the difficulties of your case and it's deep seated connections to the time you got knocked back by Labour from ripping all of us taxpayers off by trousering a council flat in London and selling it on for a huge profit.
You can take along the inflatable house from Ed Miliband that I sent you.
John wanted to know if we could depend on your vote in the forthcoming elections, Jimbo?
Cheers

PS I came across these lovely examples.

And can I just add "Wickes Decking is made from slow-grown timber, and kiln-dried to make it less likely to split or twist." Looks lovely to me.
Thank you very much!

Re: Booked you in
David, as you might say to me and others, "You need to sit down, take your medication and just, "Try and think more clearly".
My reply to your hysterical rant is perfectly valid. You are pathetically attempting to use irony in order to lay the mantle of "Police State" at the door of the Coalition. You convince no one!
However, what's really interesting is how when cornered or faced with opposition you Socialists always resort to implying or suggesting that your opponent is, "Psychologically distressed" or "disturbed" in some way and in, "need of medication". I just read a book about the USSR under Stalin (You know the guy who murdered 50 million?) and your methods fit very neatly into the interrogation style of the NKVD, his secret police.
It's fascinating how you choose language, in an attempt to intimidate, which was identical to that used by those psychotic murderers and torturers in the NKVD. That's what I meant in my post, when I said, "Control is in your blood, you just can't help it.
Like your sinister phrase to Lizard, "Try and think clearly" and to me, "Booked you in....."
It's frightening that you are unconsciously adopting the role of Socialist interrogator, without even realising it.
Below is a picture of a mother of one of the sailors in the doomed Russian submarine "The Kursk", being sedated, by injection, by an, "official" at the so called, "Inquiry". She was sedated because she was demanding answers about her son's death.

The officials, secret police, perhaps like you would have done, if you'd been there, thought that, "She wasn't thinking clearly" and "She was hysterical", so naturally she had to be sedated and carted off. I wonder if the chap on the left was/is just like you David? After all, she was causing trouble asking all those awkward questions.
Within the seeds of your choice of words and phrases, can be seen a burgeoning interrogator, Col David!
Lucky for us you were born in the wrong place and time!

Only teasing Jimbo
Ok, I'll come clean. I haven't booked you in to the John Prescott clinic for phobias. Sorry to mislead!
But hey you know how it works. Make a halfway sensible comment and I will reply politely.
Post something like "I mean to say, the police actually published their footage! Pathetic, in New Labours time they would have instinctively hidden it away for some kind of political use, at a later date." I will take the piss.
And you know what happens when I take the piss out of you? You get upset and flounce off the forum screaming that you will never return. Or alternatively you may go off to another forum (name not to be mentioned) where you can have a moan about your treatment with similar minded chums.
Rather tedious behaviour for someone of advancing years, Jimbo. Eh?
Cheers
