Killing Bono...

This is a film, and I saw a trailer for it on TV last night. I really can not believe they've got away with calling it this, especiallly as Bono has received hundreds of death-threats during his years of fame. Considering some famous rockstars have been assassinated over the years, I find it disturbing a film can be made with a title like this. What do people think?

'Some' implies more than one. Who else in addition to John Lennon ?

Maybe just Lennon then, but I'm sure there have been others. The guy who killed John Lennon had a hit-list of rockstars he wanted to bump off and Keith Richards was on it too. Appareantly the night Lennon was murdered Richards, who had heard about the list, sat on the stairs (once it had been announced through the media that Lennon had been killed) at his house in New York with a gun - waiting for him. Didn't someone try and do Wyclef Jean this week, only injuring his hand though?

Has anyone tried to kill Jedward yet?

These rock star assassins have no taste.

Think Wyclef was a bungled robbery or altercation rather than an assassination attempt.

What about Tupac and Biggie Smalls. Marvin Gaye was sort of assasinated.

What are the defining features of an assassination as opposed to a shooting ?

Arguably the killer isn't known to the victim which would disqualify Marvin Gaye. I don't know enough about the other two killings, but in Tupac's case wasn't there an earlier shooting following which he came up with a list of 3 or 4 'suspects' ?

If we accept the the Tupac and Biggie killings were the result of an ongoing feud then this would also tend to argue against their being viewed as assassinations.

Dunno about killing him, but one of my favourite jokes is about Bono:

Q. How many members of U2 does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

A. Just Bono. He stands still and the world revolves around him.
