So whilst everybody else pays, most of them realising, however begrudgingly, that's how the services the council provides are to a large extent paid for, these scroungers try to get away without paying. And lets not forget those with multi million pound houses only pay on average a couple of times what those of us in more humble abodes pay. Charge them a fair amount and the rest of us could have a reduction. I believe Saif Gadaffi's ?12m house was liable for as much as ?3300 a year. Dont know how he could afford it.

Essential services are paid for by funding from central goverment ie: taxpayers money, the council tax pays for the extras like junkets for the councillers and bigger expences for when they attend meetings and creating nonsense jobs for people who would be unemployable in the private sector !rant!

"Essential services are paid for by funding from central goverment ie: taxpayers money"
Partly, though the definition of "essential services" appears to be greatly reduced under our current great leader Cameron's reign, ably supported by the slack-jawed, smirking creep that is George Osborne and the smiling, dishonest idiot that is Nick Clegg.
Cheers
