Yeah.. totally O/T so I thought it needed posting here...but..
Wonders Of The Universe....astonishing TV...
gawd bless the BBC...making something there's little or no commercial value in..but WOW serious good TV.
And Brian Cox...in the words of Andy Gray (no.."Can you tuck this down here Charlotte").."Take a bow, son."

Missed it originally as I was at a gig but caught it on iPlayer (rest of series now set to be recorded). Awesome. Public broadcasting at its best. As you say, little to no commercial value (I dare say a few broadcasters around the world will pick it up, but I doubt they'll ever recoup the costs) but seriously good TV.

Great visuals but the stuff is pure speculation, nobody has been past the moon so a lot of this is just wild imaginations from scientists trying to stay in a job.

Just watched a repeat of the first episode.
Who needs drugs? Seriously trippy stuff. I loved it, particularly the way he explained big ideas like entropy, the movement from order to disorder etc.
Stunning photography. Well done the Beeb.
The end of the universe where nothing happens and nothing happening continues on and on.
I often thought that of Stevenage when I was there.
Cheers

We know so much about the origins, past, and highly probable future of the universe, that to describe what was said in the programme as the 'wild imaginations from scientists trying to stay in a job' doesn't really deserve further consideration.
If the programme had a problem for me it was the occasional 'TV Burp' moment. Cox:'I'm here in (some exotic remote hard to get to location).' Me: 'That's nice for you.'
And there's something about his mouth that just isn't quite right. And those collarless shirts he tends to wear. Cant quibble with the well presented, concise and accessible science though.

There was a whiff of very expensive shoot for an outdoor pursuits catalogue about it but that didn't spoil it for me.
If Brian Cox is looking for a good home for that Berghaus Extreme jacket he was wearing in Patagonia I think, I would gladly provide it.
Not a patch on the late great Carl Sagan and his 'Cosmos' series.
I have the full Cosmos series on DVD. It's fantastic.
I don't see how you can compare a single episode of Wonders of the Solar System to a full series of Cosmos, though.
