Internet Conspiracy Theory Nutter Time

I love a good conspiracy theory. The best ones involve Government agencies and secret headquarters with dolly birds in short white coats loading data tapes onto old IBM 6000 series mainframe computers and guys in overalls driving electric forklift trucks around underground missile factories.
Anyway, does anyone here stop and wonder why the internet happened at all? And why so much money is spent expanding the network infrastructure when most sites hardly make a cent, and WHY it is specifically good at encouraging everyone to makes posts about their personal opinions and plans etc?
I think it's all a plot to compile a fucking HUGE database of what we all prefer so that some evil wanker in a high-backed leather chair can pull levers and control us!!!!
Am I a fruit cake?
And if I am, would you like a slice?
(Just a very thin slice - must watch my figure)
