Whats this thing with Ashley Cole? As I understand it he took a 0.22 Air Rifle to the training ground (why!) pointed the gun at someone (it doesnt matter who) and pulled the trigger(never point a gun at someone), the pellet was fired and that person was hit.
I believe that he is being fined ?250,000 (two weeks wages!!!!!!) by the club and the matter will then be forgotten.
How much of this gets paid to the young lad in question so that he presses no complaint?
About a month ago Edward Woolard was jailed for 32 months for throwing a fire extinguisher of Millbank Tower which landed close to Police lines. His defence was that 'he threw it off the roof but not at anyone', he was found guilty because 'it could have hit someone and injured or killed them.
Ashley Cole pointed a gun at someone fired and did injure them - so whats the difference?
Does this 'someone' have to loose a finger, hand or eye before the police become involved, or will the fine and payout just get larger.

The difference is he's a famous, rich footballer. See Steven Gerrard perfecting his uppercut technique on a DJ, to which he got let off on self-defence, as an example.

I wonder if the workie had shot Cole, would he have been fined two weeks wages and the matter dropped?

The difference it seems is that Ashley Cole did not deliberately point the gun at someone and did not deliberately fire the gun. It was an accident. Unless you know better, in which case you can of course post your evidence here. So far you seem to be convinced of your own argument, but haven't produced any evidence to corroborate your version of events.

It may well have been an unintentional discharge of his weapon, but why have it there in the first place? Perhaps he thought there might be someone there also with a gun and he needed protection in case they started shooting people. See the thread on Texas students and guns for the reference.

As I understood it from a radio broadcast, the gun wasn't his, he found it in (the vicinity of) the changing room. Possibly it belonged to someone doing a bit of vermin control around the grounds.
However, picking up an unknown weapon, not knowing if it was loaded or not, and with what kind of projectile if it was, then shooting at someone is more irresponsible than bringing your own gun along. (in my view).
