The Killing on BBC4

If you like an excellent crime thriller, I can recommend the Killing on Beeb 4.

20 hour long episodes that track a murder investigation over 20 days. Set in Denmark with subtitles, this is just about the best thing of its type on the box at the moment.

It's up to episode 12 but all is available on the Iplayer. However, episode 1 will only be around until this Saturday.

This is just great stuff. Give it a go.

Like I said Episode 1 disappears from the iplayer on Saturday.

It's a brilliant portrayal of grief on the part of the parents of the murdered girl. Because the entire thing is so long - about 20 hours, 12 hours covered so far, you can see the slow unwinding of their relationship step by step. The main detective, Susan Lund is really well acted in an unfussy, undemonstrative, totally focused way.

And finally for all you lovers of Scandinavian knitwear out there, there's a lovely, hand-knitted wool pullover in most episodes worn by the detective.

They are into their hand-knitted wool pullovers, the Danes, you know.

I've missed it all so far, so have ordered the series from Amazon instead

Is the second series on DVD then or are you watching it on some satellite channel?

I did hear that Beeb4 have bought the second series. Not sure when it is due to show. My guess is that they may well show the entire series that is now on Beeb 4 on Beeb 1.

It's worth the wait but having almost seen the whole of the first series I'm sure you'll have an idea of how the second one would pan out too.

It's finished

Oh no, it finished on Saturday. Just about the best thing I have seen on the box this year.

I'll have to find a mate to wander around the room in a Scandinavian hand-knitted sweater looking very self-absorbed now, just to cope with the withdrawal pangs.
