Well what about those Labour-run councils like Manchester who are busy cutting front-line services and amenities (while keeping on their armies of backoffice bureaucrats, their precious "diversity awareness" officers, their gay & lesbian self-defence instructors and their 5-a-day coordinators) in a cynical attempt to score party political points.

If you believe everything Grant Shapps tells you, you will probably believe in a flat earth, Flat Eric.

Manchester Council has announced 2,000 job losses. They need to save ?110 million in 2011-12 which means a 25% cut. The Tory leader of Blackpool council is on record as stating that the government does not understand the reality of local services and the demands placed upon them.

Before you go into "its the cynical Labour lot" routine, the criticism of the government approach has come from all sides including Tories and Lib Dem run councils e.g.

1. TORY council leader Callow on Blackpool Council is on record as saying that the TORY-led government do not understand the constraints that Blackpool are under. They have announced 1000 job cuts. Callow rubbishes the government's incorrect figures about the percentage of the cuts.
