She makes some good points and I know someone who is stepping into the arena with her soon but without coming across with the typical offensive opinions of her, can we have some constructive viewpoints on what people think of her?

I actually did a search and found I did post on this topic before. Sorry about that. Plus I said tothe perosn that inquired at UKAP that I never heard of her before so my apologies for that. If her name isnt Camille Paglia, Andrea dworkin or Germain Greer then my knowledge of feminists doesnt stretch that far beyond those names

I think Gail Dines is a force to be reckoned with and maybe dismissive in some of my previous commentary.

Her weakness and strength is her passion for what she talks about and no matter what the outcome, porn will still roll on as if her vitriol never existed

However, she is getting more support and this is where it could influence the right people and make a change but I cant help but feel she does make some really good points even if I can defend against them, its hard not to see her point on some of it.

Its the innacuracies I find hard to stomach and her blanket accusation of the porn industry as a whole I have a hard time with.

She does make some valid points like porn having become more extreme over the past decade or so, with all that throat-gagging, circus acts and what have you.

The fact that it's much more accessible to minors is also a problem.

But the mistake she makes is that she tars all porn with the same brush and bangs on about it being "violence against women" etc. That's just plain daft. She also implies (backed up by her own very unscientific anecdotal statistics) that the inevitable next step is that those porn consumers who don't become anal rapists after viewing all that anal sex will probably become kiddie-fiddlers because of all the so-called "teen" stuff that's around today. And in my opinion that's equally ludicrous.

She's entitled to her own views, but I have a problem with people who try to force their own views & morals and their own definition of good and evil onto society as a whole. My view is that the vast, vast majority of adults are sensible enough to know where to draw the line between fantasy and reality, and aren't going to be tipped over the edge and turned into serials rapists, child molesters or Peter Sutcliffes just by watching porn.

Those of such a bent are in all likelihood warped to begin with and will probably offend anyway (porn or no porn), no matter what the Gail Dineses and Liz Longhursts of this world might claim.

She makes many valid points, not least the ones regarding the increase of violence in porn and the fact that it is so easy for anyone to access.

I think she may also be correct regarding relationships... the first time I saw someone having sex was when I was about 17 and caught sight of myself and the girl I was with in the wardrobe mirror LOL Dara O'Brien did a joke a while back about a young couple visiting a fertility clinic because she just can't get pregnant. Asked to describe a typical night of love making the man says it starts off with her giving him a blow job, then they fuck in a few different positions, after which he fucks up her up the arse before cumming on her tits!!

I think there is the potential for some people to expect their sex lives to mirror what they see on screen and/or to attempt to make their sex lives mirror what they see on screen. I remember having a big argument in these forums with ********* some years ago regarding the direction his films were going... my concerns are just as strong today regarding porn in general. Gagging, strangling, spitting, shoving girl's heads down a toilet, etc really have no place in what should be "erotic entertainment" and whatever some may say, people, especially kids, copy what they see.

Some very good points (and jokes) Bob, and I largely concur with what you say. Personally I find most modern porn (post circa 1999) a complete turn-off and it holds no interest for me whatsoever.

Yes I actually agree with you both and feel where Gail might fall down is that she comes across as a flag waving feminist in her heated passion to trash the porn industry without realising that in her crusade, where should she draw the line before it becomes pc madness!

Imagine Ms Dines having such an impact that music videos must stop being sexy. No more advertising bras with pretty models in public. All catalogues should have models suitably attired and in poses that make them look unsexy

It will never happen of course but could you imagine the western world de-sexed just to appease the likes of Ms Dines and her supporters?

It will just implode underground and come out the cracks of that explosion in weird ways.

The argument for sexual inadequacy is a good one but this was around way before porn became as big as it did today.

I think that girl Bob alluded to is lucky to have the three positions and a cum shot on the tits. Before porn she probably wouldnt have gone out with him for sweating a lot, having clammy hands and stuttering uncontrollably. The internet allowed wankers to actually meet women and be what they are not.

What Ms Dines fails to address is the responsibility of the parents throughout this. Not just their supervision and awareness in such matters but also the education their children need to have the tools to communicate with other people in a social situation.

After all, you dont need to be an expert conversationalist or slick with words to pull a woman.

I tend to avoid or ignore what is printed in the Guadrian. I have enough Andrex in the bathroom cupboard to wipe my posterior on.

However I do fear that some porn has become too extreme. Women sticking 18 inch dildo's up their arses and getting 3 blokes, who are obviously Bi, up the same arse cannot be good for their health. What does concern me is the younger generation of men, between 15 and 20 assume all women love being slapped about and drilled up the arse without lube. I run a junior sports team and the attitude of the youths, compared to how I saw and fantasised about girls in my teens is quite alarming, they think extreme porn is how all women should behave and have little or no respect for their partners.

Arginald..Wouldnt it be fair to say that the attitudes of those boys are merely like that because they are in the company of their peers so it is cool to act that way but we all know who wears the trousers when they do get a real girlfriend.

I found that when young boys find a girlfriend as adventurous as that they usually fall in love with them which is the wrong way to go as I've seen men become victims for being that shallow.

The problem with the likes of Gail Dines is that they seem to just go for the producers and not for the people that actually perofm or the actual girls and thereby portray that most cliched of chestnuts; the exploited naive young woman.

She should spend a bit of time tlaking to the women that perform in porn films than assume its all about greedy producers.
