The government's announced its proposals on what to do with control orders, the system introduced by Labour with regard to what to do with people viewed as terrorists but who have not been charged as such.

After 8 months of review, this is the result.

The first entry is what they were under Labour, the second entry is what they are going to be under the coalition

Limited to two years, but will be able to be extended if there is new material that the individual still poses a threat.

Residential restrictions

These will remain.

There will be limited restrictions on communications including the use of the internet, but controlees will be able to use it at home as long as they notify authorities of their password.

The reaction from Liberty Shami Chakrabarti, director of human rights group Liberty, said the government had "bottled it".

Is she right given the Lib Dems manifesto commitment was to scrap them and the Conservative manifesto commitment was to replace them.

Cheers
