Murdoch and the NOWT. throw the towel in

The News of the World have just announced the sacking of their former Head of News Ian Edmondson with regard to phone hacking allegations. This follows an internal enquiry by the NOTW. Edmondson was appointed by Coulson and was his number 2.
Apparently, they have passed emails sent by Edmondson to the police. As a result the Met have announced a new investigation into "significant new information received". After the piss poor job done by the original Met investigation, they have called in a completely new team.
So Murdoch and Coulson started off by arguing that this was just one rogue reporter and they bought the silence of a number of people whose phones were hacked such as Elle Macpherson and Graham Taylor in return for huge payouts. They appear to have realised at the NOTW that this is not a tenable approach any more given that people are now queuing up to sue the paper and have thrown the towel in.
Looks now like Coulson was given a tip off that this was going to happen so he walked before he was pushed.
Cheers
